Hello, my name is Gemma, welcome to TLC Counselling & Psychotherapy.
We all need some emotional support from time to time, many of us find parts of our lives difficult and we are not always able to turn to family and friends to help us overcome the challenges we face.
Counselling is an opportunity for you to understand yourself better, a place to share with someone who will not judge your life experience. I am here to join you on your journey to be who you want to be.

There are many reasons people seek counselling: anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, anger, loss, bereavement and relationship Issues, plus many other challenges that we face on a day to day basis. You may simply be feeling sad and are struggling to understand why. Counselling gives you the opportunity to explore and seek some clarity.
Through being truly heard you can begin to understand how you really feel and what you need in order to manage and maintain control of your wellbeing.
Experiencing new self-awareness by learning to understand and express how you feel can empower you to make positive changes, whether your struggling with the here and now or past issues are holding you back, together we can explore any issues that are preventing you from fulfilling your needs.
It takes courage to embark on a journey of self-reflection.
During the process of counselling you will be in control of your sessions, it can feel painful and confusing at times and may feel uncomfortable and bring feelings of anger or sadness. I have no expectations of you to talk about anything that may feel too painful until the time is right for you.
I provide a strictly confidential, safe, non-judgemental, empathic space where you can feel truly heard and understood, allowing you the space and time to process your thoughts and feelings at a pace that feels right for you. Sessions are client led, lasting 50 minutes on a weekly or fortnightly basis with regular reviews to see how you feel progression is being made. An initial assessment will take place to establish your needs, giving me the opportunity to see how best I can help you and it gives you a chance to find out what I am like and to experience how counselling with me might feel for you.
I value my profession and your wellbeing is at the heart of what I do. My aim is to ensure a high level of trust is established to enable deep emotions to be explored. I believe that you as an individual have the ability to decide what is best for you and by exploring your thoughts, feelings, emotions and experiences you can gain a better understanding of them, giving you the tools you need to make positive changes. I am here to help you facilitate that change and enable you to move forward on your journey.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am a qualified Integrative therapist. I have an Arts Foundation Degree in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy. I use different therapeutic approaches to tailor your sessions to meet your individual needs. We can work together with the here and now and also with early life experiences, bringing an understanding of how past experiences can mould us into the people we become and look at why certain patterns of behaviour may exist. With this knowledge and understanding you can begin to encourage new patterns, to enable a healthier, more manageable, happier future.
I am a registered member with the BACP and practise according to their code of professional ethics and practice.
I have professional Indemnity and Public liability insurance cover.
I have worked with a variety of individuals of all ages from diverse backgrounds. I have worked for Leicester women's counselling centre (New dawn new day) supporting vulnerable women and at Coping with Cancer, supporting individuals through anxiety, addiction, illness, depression, loss, trauma, abuse, bereavement, terminal diagnosis and many more.
I am a registered health care provider with Vitality health insurance.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.
Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.
All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

There is no obligation to continue further sessions if you do not feel that I am the right counsellor for you. I undersatnd that finding the right counsellor, someone that you can build a good rapport with, is an important element in positive outcome.
