About me

About me

I am a BACP Accredited therapist, working in private practice in East Finchley and Camden, offering short-term and long-term counselling on a weekly basis. Through a warm and supportive relationship, we will explore any difficulties you are having in your life right now. We will also look back into your past, to try to understand patterns of behaviour that might not be quite so effective for you today. By exploring feelings and experiences and building self-awareness, we will work together to move towards a positive change for the future.

I hold a Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling, a recognised British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) accredited qualification. I am also an Accredited Member of the BACP.

In the past, I have been an Assistant Tutor, training students working towards a Certificate in Counselling Skills, supporting and helping the students to fulfill their potential.

About counselling

Both counselling and psychotherapy can help us deal with our problems in a fresh way and enrich our lives generally. Whilst the terms are sometimes used interchangeably, counselling tends to focus on a specific current problem, whereas psychotherapy tends to look at more deep-seated issues that are likely to have a basis in the past. The type of counselling and psychotherapy I offer is psychodynamic.

Together, in a safe and confidential space, we will build a trusting relationship. This relationship will be used to explore personal problems, to enable you to make sense of your unhappiness. Through careful listening, reflecting and questioning I will support you in developing insight into your problems and issues, help you rediscover your own inner resources and enable you to approach your life in a new way.

What can counselling help with?

Counselling can help with many areas of life, including:

Relationship issues
Separation and divorce
Anxiety
Family issues
Bereavement
Work-related issues
Stress
Depression including post-natal depression

The sessions

The purpose of the first two (assessment) sessions is to find out if we make a good 'match', and to help you decide if you would like to work with me. There is no obligation to return after these first two sessions.

If you do feel that we could work together, subsequent sessions are 50 minutes long, and take place at the same regular time, agreed by us, once a week. In times of crisis this can be increased to two sessions a week. It is important to commit to attending the weekly sessions in order to gain regular support and continuity.

Short-term or long-term

You might like to start with short-term therapy (12 sessions) or opt for long-term therapy (open-ended). If you find the short-term therapy to be beneficial, you can extend into long-term therapy. The choice is absolutely yours.

Videocall

I offer sessions via videocall on a variety of apps.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
