About me

Hello, thank you for getting this far looking for a counsellor. If you contact me, either by phone or email, we can arrange an initial appointment to discuss what you are expecting from counselling. Following that, if we decide we can work together, we can arrange a weekly time to meet.

I named my practice Coastal Counselling Bexhill because I love the sea, the shore and natural world. The movement of the water, the solidity of the rocks, the sounds of the waves and the wind remind me of the changing nature of our thoughts, feelings and behaviours and our need for a safe secure base to be able to be ourselves.

I am a qualified and experienced counsellor. I currently work for a local Charity Counselling Plus as an Assessor and counsellor for Survivors of Suicide . I also work within the bereavement sevice at a local Hospice . My private practice is in Bexhill-on- Sea, East Sussex. My therapy room is a ten-minute walk away from the coast. I am committed to offering counselling in a welcoming, confidential, safe and non-judgemental environment. My aim is to provide a safe space where you can be you and talk about what concerns you. I am empathic and people have said I am a good listener. I believe a good therapeutic relationship between you and me is essential to support the change you want to make in your life. Please feel free to contact me to discuss your needs and there will be no obligation involved at first point of contact.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Further information

Generally, counselling works best in weekly sessions and enables us to build a theraputic relationship. Our first session would be an introductory time to build trust within a therapeutic relationship, with you explaining what brings you to counselling and your expectations of the process. I would answer any questions you may have. Each ensuing session may start with a review of your week and what you had found helpful from the previous meeting. Alternatively, you may wish to just talk about any new issue which had arisen since the previous session. At times if it’s appropriate, we can use natural objects from the beach to help you express yourself in a creative way.

Comments from previous clients:

"She is a very special person who listened to my every word. Who did not judge me in what I was thinking. Who at my lowest time talked to me - she seemed to really care."

"I no longer feel any guilt that I could have done more"......

" I feel more at peace within myself"......"Self-care has moved to the front of my thinking."

" Gaye was a lovely person, she helped me through some really bad times ".....
