About me

I am a BACP Accredited Counsellor based in Chelmsford, with over 18 years experience, Counselling both Individuals & Couples. I have a range of fees starting from £40. I offer a safe & confidential space for you to talk about any issues or emotions that are troubling you.  Together we can begin to explore your thoughts and feelings, to enable you to move towards increasing self-awareness and understanding of how to move forward with your life and your relationships.

I specialise in a wide range of issues, including: Couple issues & Relationship issues with partners, family, friends or colleagues; Anxiety (including Generalised Anxiety Disorder; Panic, Phobias, & anxieties related to Health issues); Depression and Low Mood (including Postnatal Depression, & Seasonal Affective Disorder); Loss and Bereavement; Low Self-Esteem & Confidence issues; Sexuality issues; Workplace Stress & other Workplace issues.   I see both Individual Adult clients and also Couples, for Counselling sessions.

Counselling Sessions:  We will usually meet once a week, at the same time.  You may wish to have just a few Counselling sessions and so when we first meet, we can decide upon a particular focus for these sessions.  Alternatively, you may decide to have more open-ended Counselling, which would enable you to continue Counselling for as long as you feel it is of benefit.

Choosing a Counsellor:  I am aware that choosing a Counsellor can feel like quite a big decision.  If you would like to meet with me, to help you decide if I am the right Counsellor for you, please contact me so that we can arrange an initial free half-hour Consultation.

Training, qualifications & experience

Training & Professional Body Accreditation:  I am a fully qualified Counsellor and a Registered & Accredited member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy) and adhere to the BACP Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions.  While my initial training was in Psychodynamic Counselling and this remains the basis of my general practice, further training in other therapeutic approaches means that I can work with clients in a more Integrative way, or alternatively offer CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy).

My Counselling/Therapy qualifications:  These include,  Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling; Diploma in Counselling Skills; Certificate in Counselling; & a Post-Graduate Diploma in CBT.  Prior qualifications include both a Diploma in Management Studies and an Honours Degree.  I have gained additional Professional Development in the following areas: Couple Counselling; Time-limited Therapy; essentials of Sexual Minority Therapy; a Foundation in Group Analysis; & experiential Mindfulness practice.  My original Counselling training continues to be enhanced by Professional Development and Training, which includes a mixture of short courses, conferences, and workshops, covering both Individual and Couple Counselling.

My Counselling Experience:  I have 18 years experience as a Counsellor and in addition to Private Practice, have been fortunate to have worked as a Counsellor for many years, in a number of diverse areas:

-  Staff Counsellor, in a large Organisation.
-  Counsellor for Employee Assistance Programmes.
-  Surgery Counsellor, in a number of local GP Surgeries.
-  Counsellor for Couples and Individuals, in a Counselling Agency.
-  Therapist (Counselling & CBT) for the NHS, both in a Hospital and in an Outpatient Psychotherapy Service.

I have extensive experience of both short-term focussed Counselling and also longer-term Counselling work with clients.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
