About me

Taking that first step to finding a counsellor may feel daunting, especially when life may already feel very challenging.

From listening to my clients I have come to understand how deciding to begin counselling can really feel quite scary.  It is for this reason that I offer a 30 minute introductory session for new clients, free of charge, and with no obligation to book further sessions.

I hope my profile will give you the information you need to make your choice.  If there is something else you need to know, please give me a ring or send me an e-mail.

I am a Humanistic Integrative Counsellor, which simply means that I work with a variety of techniques, depending on my client’s needs, and these techniques are held within a structured framework. My focus is to build a strong relationship with my clients to support and contain them through the challenges of the counselling work they choose to do.

I am also an EMDR Europe Accredited Practitioner.  EMDR has become an invaluable model for working with trauma, including post traumatic stress disorder, bereavements and many other challenges.

Here is a brief snapshot of some of the work I have done.

I have worked as a counsellor and supervisor for several years with clients who are bereaved.  My clients have stretched across the age ranges and with all types of loss.  I have also worked alongside clients struggling to cope with loved ones who were terminally ill.

I have a lot of experience working with survivors of abuse and domestic violence.  This work includes working with feelings around power and control, the loss of childhood; strong feelings of guilt and shame, low self esteem and so much more.

I am an experienced Supervisor and I work on a 1:2:1 and group basis.

I offer both short and long term therapy, this is your choice.

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.
