About me

Hello, my name is Gabrielle, but everyone calls me Gabz. My therapy practice for this reason is called 'Therapy With Gabz'.

Some people might not know what some of the therapy jargon means, (I know I didn't before my training!) So I will explain the ones on my profile.

MBACP means I am a Member of The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), this means that I am registered with them meaning I have completed a course accredited by the professional body and abide by their code of ethics in my practice. The MSc means Master of Science, I completed a Counselling and Psychotherapy Master's Degree at Keele University meaning that I am a fully qualified practitioner to a post-graduate level 7 standard.

I am an integrative therapist, meaning that I use various types of therapy with my clients, dependent on their needs and wants. Despite this, at the core of my practice is the person-centered approach, the belief that all people are capable of reaching their full potential, as long as they are supported with the right conditions and tools in place for them.

I am not a therapist that simply nods their head (something I hear a lot that my clients did not like), I am a therapist that will be there for you, offer you empathy and confidentiality, but also question and challenge you (in a good way!)

Together we will navigate the different routes available to you, so you can decide on the direction that you would like to take. Therapy can be short or long term, dependent on your wants and needs - I like to offer regular check ins with clients to check in with how we feel we are working.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a fully qualified and experienced counsellor and psychotherapist and have a Masters in Counselling and Psychotherapy (Distinction).

Before becoming a therapist, I worked as an actor which gave me my passion for connecting with people. Later in life I opted for a change in career and worked in prisons across the country, where I realised that there was a huge need for mental health support. This paired with my own personal loss, inspired me to train to become a therapist.

I volunteered at a counselling charity in Staffordshire for 2 years and I now work as a young person’s Wellbeing Practitioner for a local Cheshire charity, I also work one day a week as a school counsellor. I have opened my private practice to offer a confidential and supportive space for everyone, inclusive of clients from different cultures, socio-cultural backgrounds, members of the LGBTQ+ community and a range of ages.

These listings can be difficult to express who I am, for a little bit more of an insight, head over to my Instagram page @therapywithgabz (I have Facebook too!)

Member organisations

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Additional information

I charge £45 for a 60 minute session, face to face, online video or telephone.

I offer a reduced rate of £35 for 60 minutes for students aged 18+ regardless of whether you are at sixth form, college, university, or other further education routes. I was once a student that needed therapy, so it is important that I offer to clients what I hoped was available to me.

Further information

Face to Face Therapy

People often find coming to my therapy room preferential as this gives you the opportunity to keep your home life and therapy exploration separate. Face to face therapy offers a chance to connect and share. I am based on the border of Staffordshire and Cheshire in Biddulph. My location means that I am near to Congleton, Leek, Stoke-on-Trent, Newcastle-Under-Lyme, Macclesfield, Crewe and other towns across Cheshire East and North Staffordshire.

Online and Telephone Therapy

Online and telephone therapy is an excellent option for people who do not want to leave their home and experience therapy from their own safe space. I use Zoom and Whatsapp Video Call as my secure platforms. This option is also great for people who are not within a commutable distance to my practice or the thought of seeing someone in person is overwhelming. Sometimes people start with a video call and work up to face to face.

Initial Meet - Prior to Starting Sessions

I offer a free 30-minute initial meet at either my home therapy room, online or over the telephone. I believe that it is important that the relationship between you and your therapist feels a good fit, for the most fruitful therapy. This gives you and I the chance to see if we feel like we can work together. That way we can spend our first session working on what is important to you.
