I have been a Counselling Psychologist for over thirteen years. I have mostly worked in very front line NHS services; helping people with Psychosis, Bipolar disorder, Personality disorder, Addiction, Depression and severe Trauma. I also have a successful private practice.
On contacting me you'll get a warm and interested welcome whether it's by email or by phone.
It can be very nerve-wracking admitting that you need support for emotional difficulties and I really respect those who try to find help. It takes a lot of courage.
I use proven methods to help. I particularly enjoy working with Anxiety and Depression as well as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) by using Eye movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR), but as a psychologist I draw on many models of therapy and will consider what is effective. All problems have anxiety as an ultimate manifestation so I work closely with what causes it.
Attachment is important. Early relationships and losses act as filters which can cause misery and unhappiness. Nothing is written in stone however; and no matter how ingrained patterns of suffering might feel there is always a way to affect some kind of shift. This is what I delight in; in being able to use what I know to be helpful to those who feel stuck.
The first session is always assessment of the issue. I'll usually do a family tree. Most people find this interesting and helpful; and as an intervention on its own it can shed light on a lot of things.
I generally see people for psychotherapy for up to 16 sessions or longer if they request. Some traumas or issues can sometimes be resolved in just a few. There is a lot of flexibility.
If I can't help you, I will always suggest others or services who can. I have a lot of knowledge of what works and I'm happy to share it.

I also take a strong interest in teams and how they function and can offer supervision to teams to help them resolve issues of burnout and emotional exhaustion. This supervision can also extend to any mental health professional or anyone in the caring or public sector who is experiencing stress at work or vicarious traumatisation. I have extensive knowledge of the health care systems in the UK and am able to liaise professionally with any others who may be involved.
I have my own meditation practice which is rooted in its Buddhist context; and am also very interested in natural food production (fermentation). Nutritional psychiatry is a fascinating area.
I also never recommend interventions unless I have first hand experience of them myself. It is never enough to talk the talk.
