About me

Sometimes we struggle with our feelings and thoughts, and coping can be difficult; talking through these feelings and thoughts can help to make sense of them.  My approach is friendly and informal which I hope will help you explore issues without fear of judgment.  Finding someone with whom you feel comfortable and relaxed is important, often just as important as the way that person works.

I am a person centred counsellor, which means we work together exploring issues at your pace, and developing strategies that fit for you, to help you improve your life. I have a great deal of experience working with people with low self esteem, low confidence and who are having difficulties with their relationships.

I offer counselling to adults (18+) and couples. I have been a counsellor since 2011 and offer counselling from a welcoming and comforting counselling room in Carlisle. I volunteer as a counsellor for a bereavement charity.  I offer counselling for EAP.  I am able to offer face to face, online and telephone appointments during the day, and online and telephone appointments in the evening.

Counselling can help you explore issues which can result in greater understanding of what you would like to achieve or change.   Creative therapy can also help to understand feelings; there is no requirement to be able to draw as this can done in any way you like, for example; colour, shapes, stones, photography, writing - and any other way that you would like.

I have worked as a counsellor for the NHS, Carers' charity and self-harm charity. Prior to becoming a counsellor I worked within the Education Sector.

Sessions:

I can offer day time appointments either face to face or online, and evening sessions online; short term - from one session up to ten sessions; and long term sessions.  Each session is an hour.  Together we will review the sessions often so that I can be sure I am offering you the support you want and need, and also look at how the sessions work best for you in terms of frequency.

I can help you cope with issues including:

  • relationships
  • anxiety
  • depression
  • caring for family members
  • bullying
  • bereavement
  • self harm
  • eating disorders
  • bullying
  • work related issues

together we can work towards:

  • an increase in self-awareness of behaviours and self-destruction
  • a reduction in anxiety
  • better relationships

  • a sense of well-being

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
