About me

When you need someone to listen - It can sometimes be difficult to find the right words when you are feeling alone and the stress and confusion of life seem to take over. Partners, friends and family may be too busy or stressed with their own lives to hear your difficulties clearly, or they may be part of the problem. You may not even be able to clearly identify the source of your feelings of confusion or unhappiness. Counselling can help you to explore your emotions in a relaxed, supportive environment and provide a safe outlet for your feelings, leading to a better understanding of why you are experiencing them. This understanding can help you to find the strength to make the decisions in your life which are best for you.

What is counselling? Counselling is your opportunity to talk about anything which is causing you anxiety or unhappiness, or preventing you living your life to the full. The stresses in our lives may be caused by recent events, or by events from the past. Counselling can provide the strength and support to help you to confront and overcome these in a confidential setting, safe in the knowledge that anything you say will be heard in an understanding, respectful and non-judgemental way.

Who am I? The concerns I can help with include relationship issues, separation/divorce, anxiety, depression, bereavement and loss, stress (personal and /or work related), illness, anger, addictive behaviour, and many other mental health conditions. I work with individuals, couples and families. I also provide supervision for counselling practitioners, counsellors and supervisors.

My own life experiences include working in industry, sports coaching and working as a self employed craftsman.

Please don't hesitate to get in touch by e mail, text, or give me a phone to have an informal chat to talk over what you may need or how I may be of help. If I am unable to take your call just leave a number and I will contact you within 24 hrs, or you can leave a message on my mobile number, secure in the knowledge that it will be heard only by myself.

Anyone contacting me and arranging to come along will get their first session for £20.  Couples and families first session fee is £25.

Training, qualifications & experience

Registered member of the British Association of Counselling Practitioners.

COSCA Supervisor.
PG Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy Stirling University.

PG Cert Counselling skills Edinburgh University.

Developing Couple Therapy Practice Strathclyde University.

I trained and work as a counsellor/supervisor with CBCS and in the past as a counsellor with Falkirk District Association of Mental Health covering a broad range of mental health issues.

I was also privileged to co facilitate a local Bereaved by Suicide Support Group and gained extremely valuable insight into the unique struggles of the individual participants involved.

My ongoing training and work as a couples/family counsellor reminds me how fragile our relationships can be and how important they are for us.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
