About me

Choosing a therapist

Finding the right person to support you is really important and can make all the difference. Research has repeatedly demonstrated that it is the relationship with your therapist that is the foundation for lasting impact. Please read through the information about me to see if I sound like the person that can help you.

I am now back working face to face, however I will continue to offer both telephone and online therapy if that suits you better.

What I offer

I want to create a space for you where everything is welcome and any difficulty can be shared. I have a relaxed and creative approach and can offer a strong and grounded therapeutic alliance to support and encourage your own self-inquiry. I bring patience and an open hearted curiosity to my work and am used to working with trauma and deep seated thinking patterns. I work with both individuals and with couples.

By providing a safe, non-judgemental and empathic environment, a psychotherapeutic relationship can allow our shamed, disconnected, or wounded parts to be met and accepted, and even find their own voice. I offer heartful psychotherapy for both short and long term work. I can provide safe and secure stabilisation around current personal difficulty, but also offer depth work exploring  the spiritual search for deeper meaning and fulfilment.

Over the last twenty years I have worked in a wide range of roles that have all focused on supporting clients to effect personal change. I am experienced in working with issues such as anxiety, shock, depression, unresolved trauma, panic attacks, addiction, anger problems, sexual abuse, relationship issues, domestic violence and more. I have also supported clients to explore finding meaning in life, dealing with loneliness and how to find peace and balance.

I offer an integrative, psychodynamic oriented psychotherapy. It includes aspects of body psychotherapy and transpersonal psychology and is underpinned by western developmental theories, as well as Buddhist psychology and awareness practices. Please look at my website for more information.

What to expect

I always offer a free first session, so that we can meet and discuss what you want from therapy and whether I am the right therapist for you. If we then continue to work together, we will agree the fee, the time and any other practicalities. It is often helpful to have a review after about six sessions to look at how you are feeling and whether the sessions are meeting your needs.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a Masters Degree in Core Process Psychotherapeutic Practice, following six years of professional training and clinical practice with the Karuna Institute (Middlesex University). I have full Professional Liability insurance.

I am an Accredited Member of the UK Council of Psychotherapy, and Registered Member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP). I abide by these organisations' ethical frameworks, guidlelines for good practice and codes of confidentiality.

In addition to my private practice, I work for a Devon charity as a specialist therapist with victims of sexual violence and abuse. I also supervise counsellors at this charity.

Prior to qualifying as a psychotherapist, I have worked with men who use violence in their relationship, been the manager of a child contact centre, and worked as an IDVA providing advocacy for high risk victims of domestic violence. I have twenty years of experience of working with people to effect personal change in a wide variety of settings.

I have an enhanced DBS certificate and I am a registered ICO data controller.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Wheelchair user access
Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.
