About me

Do you have times when you wake up and dread the day ahead? Or maybe it's not dread but more of an inability to cope? Ever want to retreat from the world for a while and just hope it all goes away? But of course it doesn't.....

So I'm here to help you find ways of dealing with your stress, anxiety, depression, under confidence, or indeed whatever else may be holding you back, so you can find a way to feel good about life again. Let's work together to start making this happen for you!

I practice general counselling and life coaching, seeing clients with a broad range of difficulties such as those mentioned above plus relationship problems, low self esteem, work problems, weight loss, family issues and more besides.

I firmly believe that the trust and relationship between therapist and client is vital and central to the process of change and enjoy practicing in a highly relational and humanistic way. This is done in strictest confidence and within a safe, warm and welcoming environment to put you at ease as we work together to improve your world. Working through difficult thoughts, feelings and emotions in a safe, respectful and non-judgemental way will empower you to reach within and attain the overall wellness you seek and deserve. This may at times feel like quite a challenging process but the rewards come in abundance as many happy clients have testified to.

I originally come from a varied background in health, beauty and fitness, having worked as a Beauty Therapist, Consultant, Lecturer/Trainer and Assessor for City & Guilds, BTEC and NVQ as well as a Fitness/Pilates/PiYo Instructor.
I embrace change and have a personal philosophy to always take a positive out of a negative……make everything count!

Through years of experiencing the trauma around living with my daughter’s eating disorders, I realised I needed to understand more in order to aid her recovery and not let this devastating disease destroy us all as a family. I therefore underwent extensive re training to become an Integrative Counsellor, an Emotional Freedom Technique Practitioner and learn more about how to curb the effects of her eating disorders.

Working with a range of integrated models and tailored interventions, I can offer help to clients from all walks of life covering a wide range of difficulties as well as the families of Eating Disordered (ED) Individuals. (* I no longer work with the ED sufferer them self). I am extremely passionate about the need for the ED family to be supported by placing them in a position of educated awareness, understanding, patience and hope. The more they understand what their person is going through and how best to live alongside and manage situations at home, the better chance there is for the ED person to recover.

I have worked in the NHS and now counsel clients privately and from employee assistance programmes and am proud to state that I safely practice counselling as a fully Accredited and Registered member of the BACP and abide by their code of ethics.

Having trained as an Integrated Counsellor I work with several models of therapy that include the following:

  • Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT)
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
  • Solution Focused Therapy (SFT)
  • Transactional Analysis (TA)
  • Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)
  • Human Givens Model
  • Functional Imagery Training (FIT)
  • Person Centred
  • Gestalt

I can see clients for counselling Individually or as a Family Unit re ED's, whichever is best suited to obtain the desired outcomes.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
