Foteini Palyvou, Integrative Psychotherapist MSc, BSc, Clin. Dip., UKCP Reg.
Hello I am Foteini,
I am a relational, integrative psychotherapist and I help people who want to journey from surviving life to enjoying and embracing life to its fullest.
I grew up in Greece and my passion for psychology and psychotherapy brought me to the UK where I have lived for the last 16 years.
I celebrate difference and I love working with people of different cultures, races, ages, sexualities, religions, abilities, education, social class, body sizes and professions. This plurality of views helps me honour and celebrate our uniqueness and individuality, and appreciate the complexity and multiplicity of truths that shape us in helpful or limiting ways.
I am deeply humbled by the strength of the human spirit and the common thread that connects every human being: our innate, universal need for relationships.
how I work
At the heart of my work lies the conviction that no matter what has happened to us in the past, we can heal in the presence of a safe and supportive other. In this way I endeavour to honour your struggles and accompany you during challenging and searching times.
I work collaboratively as I believe that clients have deeper wisdom they need to listen to, and my role is to support you to tune into that wisdom as you move forwards in seeking out more mutually satisfying relationships.
I am a relational, integrative psychotherapist and draw from an array of ideas that may be useful to understand how past experiences might be casting a shadow over the present, prohibiting you having a more fulfilling life and deeper relationships.
Of equal importance to me is the present and how your immediate world of others is a cause of joy and happiness or sadness and regret.
Furthermore, I am curious about the future, in terms of how your future might be drawing you to make choices in your life that will bring greater fulfilment and help you move forward in your life.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am a professionally qualified Integrative Psychotherapist and a registered member of the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP).
My initial professional qualification in the field of mental health was a BSc (Hons) in Psychology from University of Surrey.
I completed a foundation year at Regent's University London where I studied the fundamentals of psychotherapy and counselling.
I received my MSc in Integrative Psychotherapy (validated by Middlesex University) and a Clinical Diploma in Integrative Psychotherapy from Metanoia Institute after a comprehensive, four-year training.
My training also includes completing courses in trauma, attachment and neuroscience, youth counselling, bereavement and eating disorders.
I have over 11 years' experience of working as a psychotherapist with adults and young people in the NHS, charities, educational organisations and private practice. During this time I have worked with issues of childhood trauma, bereavement and loss, shame and low self-esteem, adult trauma, work related problems, relationship problems, issues relating to identity, purpose and meaning, sexuality and gender, and current relational struggles.
I have worked extensively with clients that suffer from anxiety, depression and feelings of worthlessness.
My experience also includes supporting individuals who are identical or fraternal twins, and who have found their twinship to be both a source of happiness and distress.
