About me
Are you feeling overwhelmed, stressed out, or just not quite yourself?
Are you facing challenges around your gender identity, sexuality, or relationship style?
Are you dealing with physical health conditions?
Are you concerned about the state of the world we live in?
We all face various challenges and conflicts throughout our lives and sometimes need someone to talk them over with. But we often don’t want to burden our family and friends, and so we end up swallowing our emotions – until they become too much to bear.
I know how hard and overwhelming it can feel to open up to someone, maybe for the first time ever. I am here to listen to whatever you want to talk about with kindness, patience and compassion, so you don’t have to face things alone.
What do I offer?
Hi, my name is Liz. I am a BACP registered integrative counsellor working with a person-centred basis. What does that mean?
At the heart of my approach is the belief that in a warm, understanding and confidential environment, with a therapist who will never judge you and always listen with empathy, you can begin feeling safe enough to open up and we can explore the challenges you face at your own pace.
The integrative aspect of my practice means that I draw on different therapeutic approaches, such as attachment theory, trauma models, compassion-focused therapy, or working with the body. This means that I can tailor my work to your individual needs and may offer different perspectives or tools depending on what we both think might be helpful to you.
What issues do I work with?
Some of the challenges I am most interested in working with are:
- anxiety
- depression
- issues faced by LGBTQIA community members
- relationship styles (like ethical non-monogamy)
- relationships with family, partners or friends
- physical health, chronic or long-term illness, physical disabilities
- trauma
- the climate crisis and existential concerns
- belonging, moving to a new home
Training, qualifications & experience
What experience do I have?
Since 2022, I have been volunteering as a counsellor at Sunflowers Cancer Support Charity in Aigburth. There, I work with people who are facing life-changing diagnoses or traumatic treatment, people who are bereaved, and people going through existential crises. I feel privileged to be able to work so closely with people in the most vulnerable, heartbreaking and scary times of their lives.
I also have 10+ years experience of working as a carer and personal assistant for elderly people and people with disabilities of all ages. Every day I see the many challenges faced by this population in a society focused on success and non-stop action. When you have needs that aren’t “typical”, you can often be pushed to the sidelines or simply ignored – I have made it my mission to change that and try to help the people most in need of being seen and heard.
This also applies to members of the LGBTQ+ community. As a relationship divergent person and member of the LGBTQ+ community myself, I understand the challenges still faced in today’s society and know the value of speaking to someone who really understands you. If you are struggling with questions around your identity or are lacking support from those around you, we can work together to help you figure out who you are and what needs and desires you have, so that you can feel more fulfilled and yourself.
Another passion of mine is the climate crisis. I know firsthand the feelings of anxiety, grief, guilt and powerlessness that people can experience when hearing yet another terrifying story on the news or seeing the decline in nature around us. We are all in this together, so I am here to offer a safe space if you wish to explore your feelings around this.
Having moved to the UK from Germany by myself in my early 20s, I’m also aware of what it’s like to move to, live and work in a new place, and issues around belonging and feeling uprooted. Moving to a new country or city, maybe for university, a job or a relationship, can be an incredibly scary and isolating experience, and talking to someone who really understands this can be very empowering.
Training I have completed
- Level 7 PGDip Counselling and Psychotherapy
- Level 3 Counselling Skills
- BSc Educational Psychology
- Suicide Awareness Training
- Working with Climate Change Anxiety seminar
- Introduction to CBT workshop
I am currently working towards my Masters in Counselling and Psychotherapy.
So what now?
If you would like to have a no-strings-attached chat about what therapy with me might be like, please reach out and we can have a free initial phone call. This is a chance for you to ask me any questions you might have, and for us to see how I can best support you.
You don’t have to make a decision straight away – I always encourage people to chat to a few different counsellors first to make sure you find the best person for your specific needs. If you do decide that you want to work with me, we can then arrange a first session.
Practicalities
I currently have availability on Thursdays between 9am and 8pm.
My practice is based at Sunflowers Cancer Charity in Aigburth, where I offer face-to-face sessions. The practice is fully accessible.
I also offer online sessions.
Sessions are £40 for 50 minutes. I have a limited amount of concession spaces available. I usually recommend weekly sessions, but we can always see what works best for you.
I can work in English and German.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
