Fatima Syedain, BA Psych, MSc, MBACP Registered
I offer Psychodynamic and Psychosexual therapy for couples and individuals, bringing together over 9 years of experience in working with individuals and couples, dealing with relationship issues as well as sexual dysfunction. I also help with areas that can be affected by problems that might arise from relationship issues, such as:
- a sense of hopelessness
- not being heard
What I do
Couple therapy can help people talk about the things that they cannot talk about on their own. Having a neutral third party listen to their concerns, helps couples who come together open up communication and helps create an understanding of the underlying issues. Instead of offering advice I endeavour to put up a mirror in front of my clients, so they can find an agreed way forward. Problems with relationships can be complex and sometimes they arise from challenges you may have experienced in your childhood as well as current challenges like bereavement, redundancy or divorce. Relationship therapy can be helpful in this situation for both individuals and couples, as it looks at what lies behind current difficulties, paying attention both to the past and the present in order to bring about change.
If you are experiencing problems or difficulties in your sexual relationship, psychosexual therapy can help you resolve them. Talking about sexual problems can seem daunting, and most people feel really relieved to discuss the problems that may have been bothering them for some time and this, in itself, can have very beneficial effects on your sex life. For other people a structured programme of help can resolve problems with painful intercourse, difficulties with orgasm, arousal disorders, erectile dysfunction and premature or delayed ejaculation.
How it works
If you are currently in a relationship you may decide to come to the sessions with your partner, or on you own. After a brief chat on the phone, an initial consultation will be booked, lasting 60 mins where I will get some background information about you and your relationship. If it is agreed between us to proceed to regular weekly sessions, we will discuss possible times and location for ongoing sessions.
Who I work with
Whether you are single or in a couple, come with your partner or alone - are gay, lesbian, bisexual, heterosexual or transgender - are married or, in a civil partnership, living together or apart, I am here to help you with whatever relationship problems or sexual difficulties you may have.
