About me

Whether you have previous experience in therapy or not, recognising that you are in a place where support might be useful to you can be a big step. Therapy can provide a space that is dedicated to exploring your experience - everything in your world that is happening around you and to you, and the ways that you are responding. This process can help deepen your understanding of why things ‘out there’ are impacting you the way that they are, and also help you to discover qualities within yourself that you can rely upon, empowering you to overcome both present and future struggles.

My aim as a therapist is to provide a space in which you can feel able to reflect on what is going on in your life, free from judgement, where you can be as genuinely yourself as you feel you can be. I work in a client-lead way, meaning that as much as possible I will be guided by you in what areas of your experience you wish to explore, and at what pace. My own leaning is to ask questions that might help you look deeper, and particularly to pay attention to where you find or create meaning in your life. This type of work can be very effective during transition phases, such as in the wake of significant loss, and also for those contemplating suicide, to help search for a reason to be here for tomorrow.

It is important that you find a therapist you can connect with, who you can work with to achieve what you hope to achieve. If you are thinking I might able to help you, I offer a free initial telephone consultation of up to 30 minutes so we can talk about what you are looking for help with and what you want out of therapy, where we can each get a better idea of the other. If you’d then like to go ahead, we can arrange an initial session which will be charged at the standard rate (£60).

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a Registered Member with the BACP (MBACP), with a BSc (Hons) in Counselling Studies and a BA (Hons) in Philosophy.

Prior to work in counselling, I have tutored for over 10 years with people of all ages one-to-one, including neurodiverse clients and many people from a wide range of ethnic backgrounds. I have worked for the last three years at a counselling agency within a college, working with 16-19 year olds on issues particularly around anxiety, self-harm, suicidal ideation, and difficulties arising from family relationship dynamics.

I am fully insured with an enhanced DBS check.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

DBS check info

In England and Wales, the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS, formerly known as CRB) carry out criminal records checks for individuals working with vulnerable groups, such as children. To find out more, visit gov.uk , or contact this professional directly

The counselling space I work from is on the first floor with no elevator access, so unfortunately at this time I cannot accomodate clients who would have difficulty climbing stairs.
