Emma Thompson, Counsellor/ Psychotherapist, MSc , MBACP.
My counselling service encompasses around supporting individuals to feel safe, heard and understood. Counselling is an opportunity to explore your distress at your own pace and to be part of a therapeutic relationship where you are able to fully work on and understand your issues. In addition, counselling can help you to feel that you have the knowledge and the clarity to know how you can move forwards.
My counselling approach is Person - Centred which means that I believe that you are your own expert, and that I can be a companion through your difficult journey, however, you will always lead the way. The therapeutic relationship is something that I highly value as being significant towards helping a client to change. Therefore, I will always aim to support my clients to feel accepted and prized within my presence. I am highly passionate about my work with people and I have a strong belief that people can grow and heal from distress, providing they are met with the right therapeutic conditions. Compassion, acceptance and trust are conditions that I naturally withhold for people and these conditions are vital for clients to be able to engage with therapy.
My experience has been mainly through working with a large amount of clients issues in a primary care mental heath service for a number of years. However, I also have extensive experience of working in a hospice supporting bereaved clients. In addition, I have also worked with clients suffering with alcohol and substance misuse.
My service is a confidential and professional service. I am fully insured and qualified and work within the framework of The British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy.
