About me

Hello and welcome. My name is Emma Roberts. I’ve been working as a counsellor for over 8 years. I also have experience as a Parent Coach and Maternity Practitioner. My specialism is supporting new Parents during pregnancy and following childbirth.

What I offer

I offer online & outdoor therapy.

Outdoor therapy is beneficial for many reasons, many clients prefer this to being enclosed in a clinic room, sitting in designated chairs. This can feel quite intense for some clients, to have the therapist sit opposite them. Walking next to each other, side-by-side, even with the social distancing guidelines in the current climate, can for some feel more equal and less formal. However, walking isn’t a must, sitting down somewhere in nature is also an option. It means doing therapy outdoors, in nature, often including or bringing nature and movement into the sessions.

There are many benefits to being outdoors in nature, from increased wellbeing, lowered anxiety, depressionand stress levels, to reduced anger and increased confidence and boosted self-esteem. It has also been shown to be effective for loss and bereavement, and when going through crisis or transitions.

Some clients feel that it is difficult for them to talk, think or feel, while sitting still. They need to move their bodies and feel that talking comes easier while walking. Others find it too intense to be so closely looked at or find it hard making eye contact. Most clients who get in touch with outdoor or nature therapists already have a love for nature or enjoy walking outside. Many may sit all day in front of their computers or in offices and prefer to get outside and talk through things rather than sitting in another room.

Why choose me as your therapist?

There are many different feelings that can follow the experience of discovering you are pregnant; whether it be a planned or unplanned, whether it will be your first child or not.

The reality is that pregnancy, although for many a happy occasion, can be for others a very stressful situation and antenatal depression is a very real and very normal experience.

I believe that a meaningful relationship makes therapy life changing and recognise that finding the right therapist for your needs is a challenging process.

To help you get a feel for our suitability, I offer a free initial session in which we can have a conversation about what has led you to want to talk to a therapist. I will answer any questions that you may have about therapy or the way that I work. There is no obligation and all sessions are strictly confidential and adhere to the ethical guidelines of the BACP.

Member organisations

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.

Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.

All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
