Emma Montgomery- accredited CBT and EMDR psychotherapist
Thank you for visiting my profile. I am an accredited Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist (CBT) and EMDR therapist. I have worked with a range of mental health difficulties using CBT and EMDR therapy with very positive outcomes. At present I can offer 1:1 private therapy sessions in the evenings. These sessions are strictly confidential. I use a non judgemental, client centred, collaborative approach to treatment. If evenings do not suit, please get in contact. We will try to arrange a suitable alternative. Sessions normally last between 50- 60 minutes.
CBT is the recommended treatment by National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) for depression and any anxiety disorders including panic, phobia, social anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder and post traumatic stress. It is a short term talking therapy which focuses on an individual's thoughts, emotions and behaviours. Evidence has proven these three aspects are connected therefore a collaborative approach is adopted to challenge the thoughts and change the behaviours which in turn should reduce the distressing emotions.
EMDR is the recommended treatment by NICE guidelines for any type of traumatic memory that has not been fully processed. Manifesting symptoms of unprocessed traumatic memories may include flashbacks, nightmares, anxiety, despression, disrupted sleep and an increase in emotional distress.
