About me

Hello and welcome to my profile. My name is Emma and I am a qualified integrative therapist. I am a registered member with the BACP. My training enabled me to access my own therapy and learn for myself how transforming counselling can be. Ultimately it offers the space to hold a mirror up to ourselves (which is brave by the way!) with acceptance and care, before seeking to make those changes that can lead to a more peaceful and fulfilling life. It doesn't stop difficult things happening (wouldn't that be nice!) but it offers a better understanding of how to deal with those challenges, that sometimes come from nowhere!

I offer short term therapy (6-12 sessions) as well as open ended therapy which can be more suitable for issues such as depression, loss, anxiety and low self-seteem. I provide a warm, empathic, supportive and confidential environment to help you explore whatever aspects of your life you may wish to better understand or change. Finding and choosing a counsellor can be a challenge so please do make contact with any questions etc. I am available for a free half hour phone call which can also help us both decide if I could be the right person to help.

I work from a charming calm room within the Shirley area, with free parking and warm reception area.

Training, qualifications & experience

I qualifed as a person-centred counsellor in 2017 and then completed a degree in the Integrative approach in 2019.

I set up and ran a counselling service within a further education college where I worked for 5yrs. I have a experience of young people 16+yrs and love to work with this age group. Life can be so challenging with expectaions coming from family, education, friends and social media. I have experience of working with anxiety, low mood, self-harm and trauma.

Previous to this I have worked in local charities with adults and a homeless shelter. I have particular experience of working with trauma, narcissistic abuse and family relationships.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
