About me

Sometimes we can all feel stuck and not know which way to turn. Life can feel overwhelming or out of control. It can feel like it's not heading in the direction that we want. We can get stuck in cycles, repeating the same behaviours, knowingly or unknowingly. You're in the right place as counselling can help!

Counselling focuses on your future and moving past any blocks preventing you from living the life you wish. Together we will explore your present difficulties, as well as past experiences that have led to your current situation. Throughout this process we will identify anything from childhood that you are still bound by which are impacting your life. Messages like 'you're only good enough if........' to messages that such as 'pull your socks up and get on with it' and 'don't cry over spilt milk' can continue having a silent impact years later. This exploration provides the opportunity to gain a deeper insight and understanding of yourself as well as how you view and respond to your current challenges.  I offer both long and short term counselling and we will regularly discuss your journey to check that you are still gaining what you require from counselling.

I place great value and importance on the client counsellor relationship and provide a non-judgemental holding space, promoting self-reflection and growth.  This, in my experience as both client and counsellor, is one of the most important factors in successful therapeutic change.  We will work collaboratively with the material you bring and you will be in control of your journey.

Your starting point and end goals are unique as your difficulties affect you in an individual way.  With this in mind my approach is flexible and will be tailored to your needs, respecting both you and your goals.  Change is facilitated in many ways, with an overall aim of reducing emotional distress and developing healthy coping mechanisms leading to a more fulfilling future.

What to expect from your 1st session

Making the decision to engage in counselling can be anxiety provoking and daunting.  I aim to make this process as simple and stress free as possible and provide a safe environment for you to explore your feelings. Your first session will enable us to look at your reasons and goals for attending counselling. During this time, you can ask any questions or discuss any fears that you may have about the counselling process.  After your initial session, you are welcome to book further sessions or take some time to reflect on your experience and decide if counselling with me is something you wish to engage in.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
