About me

My name is Emma (she/her) and I am an NCPS accredited, trauma informed integrative counsellor & psychotherapist.

I am passionate about supporting people who are feeling stuck, unable to fully connect to themselves and their lives and are unsure how to move forward. I have a particular interest in supporting adults, children and teenagers exploring;

  • trauma (including sexual, physical and psychological/emotional abuse)
  • grief & traumatic loss

Trauma

I understand the vulnerability and courage it takes to work through trauma and abuse; it can feel scary or even impossible at times.  I will be with you every step of the way, working at your own pace to gently explore your difficulties, your strengths and hopes; we will work safely in your limits of what feels comfortable.

I can support you to better understand and manage your triggers and develop different ways to respond to distressing thoughts, feelings, images, and uncomfortable body sensations to help you feel more in control and bring a sense of balance and peace.

Grief & Traumatic Loss

I understand how grief can leave you feeling hollow, bereft, in deep pain, numbed, full of regret and ‘what ifs.  You may feel disconnected from your loved one who has died, or even disconnected from those living and struggle to 'do the everyday'. Maybe you don’t feel impacted and are experiencing shame that you’re doing it grieving 'wrong’. Perhaps you are struggling with the confusion and conflict of grieving for someone who has harmed you, or navigating traumatic loss such as an unexpected death, a tragic accident or suicide.

I can support you to process your loss and work through your grief, whatever that looks like, finding ways to grow around it so you can begin to move forward and remember with love instead of pain.

Children and Teenagers

I have over 20 years’ experience working with children and teenagers and offer developmentally appropriate support to develop self-acceptance, new ways to respond to challenges and develop healthy coping strategies.

I am experienced in supporting a wide range of issues and can effectively support (but am not limited to):

*Abuse (including Pre Trial Therapy) * Anger * Anxiety * Autism, ADHD & Neurodiversity * Body Image * Eating Difficulties * Gender * Grief & Loss * Intrusive Thoughts * Low mood/depression * School Avoidance * Self-esteem * Self-harm * Sexuality * Suicidal Thoughts * Trauma

How I Work

At the heart of my practice is a person-centred integrative approach. I will meet you with empathy, humour, honesty and non-judgement. You can trust me to honour your thoughts and feelings so we can work through your difficulties together, at a pace that feels safe for you.

I strive to create a welcoming and inclusive space where you feel understood, respected and valued for who you are and offer LGBTQ+ affirming and culturally sensitive counselling.  I have deep understanding of neurodiversity and its brilliant gifts and unique challenges and am experienced in counselling for ASD and ADHD.

Integrative counselling & psychotherapy is a flexible and holistic approach to therapy that allows us to create a tailored approach that draws on different strategies and techniques to suit your individual needs, your personality and your presenting issues. This could include using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution-based Brief Therapy (SBFT) and creative approaches.

I practice on Mondays at The Old Rectory Clinic in BS37 9UQ and on Thursdays at Therapy Rooms GL6 6RD.
