Emma Brech PGDip (Couns) MBACP
Hello and Welcome. My name is Emma and I am a qualified integrative counsellor specialising in counselling for women. Being a woman in today's society can be enriching and exciting - but we can sometimes find ourselves feeling compromised or lost, affected by depression, frustration, abuse, or by a more intangible feeling that things are just not right.
Talking to a professional who you don't know can feel daunting at first - perhaps you are not sure that you will be heard or accepted for who you are. With this in mind, my approach is warm, open and empowering, based on a belief that you have an innate wisdom, an ability to reflect and to discover your own path through life. My role is to create a safe and accepting space; to listen carefully and sensitively; to acknowledge the painful experiences and feelings that may have blocked you in the past; and to support and validate you in making the changes that you feel are right.
I am a member of the BACP and am guided by the BACP ethical framework. I also take my own personal development seriously and engage in regular personal therapy, yoga and meditation. My practice is influenced by a number of theories which I draw on according to the needs and perpectives of my clients. They include:
- person-centred (focusing on you and the changes you want to make)
- gestalt (working creatively, linking mind and body)
- psychodynamic (valuing the relationship between past and present)
- feminist (working from an egalitarian perspective, valuing difference)
- solution-focused (thinking of practical ways to support change)
I have experience and interest in cross-cultural work and welcome diversity as an important part of my work and life.
I work within a holistic therapy centre facing Hilly Fields in Brockley, with pleasant gardens and light, comfortable, private counselling rooms. Please contact me for an initial assessment at a reduced rate; I also offer a free 10 minute phone consultation or email correspondence if you'd like to find out more before committing to a face-to-face session.
