About me

Qualified & experienced Person-Centred & Emotion Focused Psychotherapist in Slateford/Gorgie area. I specialise in depression, anxiety, relationship problems, emotional difficulties, drug and alcohol-related difficulties.

What brings you to consider counselling at this time?

There are many reasons people consider counselling. Life events may feel difficult to cope with and you may not know where to turn. You might feel unheard, misunderstood or may have become stuck in unhelpful patterns of behaviour. Perhaps you feel unhappy but are not sure why leaving you questioning yourself living with further inner-conflict and anxiety.

When people experience distress they can often feel alone, not knowing what to do. Often people try to bottle up their painful emotions by pushing them aside because they are very difficult to cope with.

Counsellors are there for us when we decide to take the brave step to ask for help, offering a professional and trusted relationship to confide in.

Am I the Counsellor for you?

Working from a person-centred approach, I welcome you to a safe space to explore what is causing you distress. Working at your pace, I would be honoured to take those difficult first steps into - or returning to - therapy and create a trusted relationship for you to share your problems constructively. I offer a non-judgemental, confidential and private space for you to explore these difficulties and help to greatly improve your psychological wellbeing.

I will listen to you deeply and work sensitively with the difficulties you bring to therapy, encouraging you to explore your thoughts and feelings in a safe manner. As a result, your innate ability to find the solutions that work best for you will develop and assist you towards greater clarity, self-awareness and acceptance.

I offer Emotion Focused Psychotherapy, a deeply emotive approach that helps people with unresolved or confusing difficulities and behaviours to work out resolutions though exploration and specific tasks. As your therapist i am trained to identify these tasks with you during sessions and introduce them to you, sometimes demonstrating what is being asked from you; if you are happy to continue we will work closely and deeply on what you bring into therapy. There is no pressure for you to partake in the task and if you choose not to we can continue developing your ability to connect with yourself and your experiences in a mindful manner and at your pace.

Please contact me to discuss this further by email, text or phone when you feel ready and ask any questions that you may need answered regarding your therapeutic journey. We can arrange a time for a free telephone or face to face initial meeting and you can decide whether I am the counsellor to help you. Our inital meeting is free of charge for the first 30mins and half our agreed rate if you choose to use the full session.

If I am unavailable I will contact you within 24 hours where possible to arrange a suitable time.
