About me

Hello, I'm Emily: an East London-based therapist specialising in working with loss, crisis, loneliness, relationship difficulties, stress, depression, anxiety and LGBTQ+ issues.

Maybe you've come to this page because there's something particular going on in your life at the moment that you want to explore, or process. Maybe it's really hard to put your finger on what you're feeling, and you want to find a way to get some insight into it. Whatever brings you here is unique to you, but the fact that you are here says that you want something to be different, and that you have a sense that therapy might help you make it happen, even if you're not quite sure how.

About Therapy

Therapy provides a space for you to explore your world without being judged or told what to do, and it helps you navigate that exploration so that you can deepen your awareness of yourself, your relationships and your history. I believe this deeper awareness empowers you, and provides you with greater freedom to start living in a way that makes you feel more fulfilled, more able to deal with life's challenges, and more open to embracing them.

How I work

I often explain the way I work as: I'm here to help you hear what you are saying. Perhaps that sounds strange, but I say it because we can often find we're living life as if on autopilot, and that it's difficult to connect with or explore what we're experiencing and feeling amid the churn of 24-hour news, social media notifications and work emails popping up around the clock. By working together, we can strip away these other voices so that we can start to hear your voice more clearly. I'm here to help you hear what you are saying, so that you can start listening to yourself.

My Approach

I practice as an Integrative counsellor, blending Person-Centred theory (which believes that everyone can grow and flourish if they are provided the right circumstances in which to do so), and Existential theory (which addresses fundamental concerns about existence, such as how we find meaning in our lives). I'm a Registered Member of the BACP, and I work within their Ethical Framework.

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold a Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling from the City and Islington College. I have additional training in working with bereavement, and have worked at agencies specialising in both bereavement and stress, depression and anxiety. Although I have particular experience in these areas, I work with people looking to explore many different issues beyond these specialisms as well, so please feel free to get in touch if you think we might be a good therapeutic match.
