About me

I am an experienced and fully qualified therapeutic counsellor for children and adolescents aged 4-19 years old, and provide counselling in a confidential, non judgemental and safe setting. I work from my own therapy room in Farnborough, Hampshire. I am able to offer support and relief from the overwhelming and confusing feelings that can leave a child or adolescent feeling vulnerable.

Through the therapy process, children and young people can develop their communication skills and confidence levels, as well as learning how to cope with difficult feelings. The benefit of this includes improving your child's relationship with family and friends, whilst enabling them to focus afresh on learning and living a contented childhood.

How I work

As children do not usually talk openly about their difficulties, they will often communicate feelings and thoughts through play, the arts and by using the toys provided in the therapy room. Older children and adolescents may also use the arts to explore how they feel or they may like to talk through their experiences and any associated feelings. Over time, anxious, hurt, angry or upsetting feelings can be put into words rather than actions. The child or young person can then be helped to make sense of their feelings and experience. Therefore, my therapy rooms are equipped to compliment and support all age groups.

My approach is child-led, which means that the sessions are led by each child or adolescent, at their pace and are tailored to their individual needs. The use of verbal communication, creative materials and play help to work through and express their feelings. Therefore, I draw from a number of therapeutic methods, and this means that my integrative framework includes different approaches including: psychodynamic, person centred and CBT therapeutic techniques.

If you would like any further information about how I work or how I might be able to help support your child or adolescent through a challenging time in their lives, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
