About me

OFFERING ZOOM, SKYPE, TEAMS AND TELEPHONE COUNSELLING DURING COVID-19. I am very experienced in delivering counselling in this way.

My name is Elizabeth Sumner and I am a fully qualified and BACP Accredited Integrative therapist, trainer, lecturer and qualified Supervisor. I have run a successful private practice for 13 years, and currently practice from my home. I have also worked in a clinical setting within the NHS for over 5 years.

It is an ideal location to offer a private and confidential service, whilst offering comfort and a high quality of counselling support. I work with a wide range of clients on a short and long term basis. I believe that the client should feel in complete control of what they bring and how we work. I am flexible in my approach, and love to use creative solutions with clients if talking is proving too difficult or they feel stuck.

My practice undoubtedly benefits from my 10 years' experience of working as a lecturer across the full range of counselling courses at Stockport College. This ensures my work is current and reflects recent research and approaches to different theories. I am highly professional and engage in at least 30 hours additional training a year.
I also work as a Supervisor and am happy to work with both qualified and trainee Counsellors.

I am happy to discuss coming to your home if this is more convenient for you. I am BUPA approved so if you have private healthcare cover through BUPA it is likely your insurance will cover this work.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.

Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.

All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.
