About me

Hello, I'm Elizabeth, welcome to Reflect. Change. Be.  Psychotherapy, Counselling & Supervision.

I am a UKCP accredited Psychotherapist, Counsellor,  Supervisor & EMDR Therapist working face to face in Market Harborough, or Online throughout the UK.  My approach is called "Person-Centred" which means that my work is tailored to the needs of each person to create a safe, warm and non-judgmental environment in which you can explore issues and affect change in your life. I have been described as being inviting, warm, understanding, down to earth, patient and having an ear for detail. I’m particularly skilled at helping you to make sense of your thoughts, feelings, relationships and experiences to create positive change in your life.

I aim to put your interests first, respect your autonomy, confidentiality, and value diversity; all within clear ethical boundaries. I welcome different client expressions,  so if you like to speak a lot, enjoy moments of silence, want to doodle, draw mind maps, make notes etc.; you can do so in our sessions. Clients experience relief that they can be themselves whether that’s feeling sad, happy, angry, despondent, confused or other emotions.

I also offer EMDR therapy for people who have experienced trauma.  This approach can be particularly helpful for people for whom talking about their experience can be re-traumatising.

I undertake regular supervision with a highly qualified supervisor, and am committed to Continuing Professional Development. I keep abreast of the latest trends as I recognise that areas such as media, social media and technology can have an impact on people’s relationships and sense of self.

This profile only gives you a brief overview of me and how I work. Please do visit my website at http://www.reflectchangebe.com to find out more details.

Counselling Trainees

I am able to provide counselling sessions or supervision for trainees who require a person-centred counsellor as part of their course requirements. In addition, I can support those who wish to use theoretical language in their personal therapy sessions to link their own processes to the key tenets of person-centred theory (e.g. the six-condition hypothesis, regard-complex, self-concept/structure, difficult processes etc.). This is particularly helpful for kinaesthetic learners.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have experience of working with clients across a number of presenting issues for example: abuse (physical, sexual, verbal), addiction, anger, anxiety (general & social), Aspergers Syndrome, behavioural Issues, bereavement, depression, eating problems, low self-esteem, relationship issues, sexuality, work issues, self harm, stress etc.

I’ve worked with clients who feel they need to change their circumstances, but don’t know where to start. I also have experience of working with different belief systems such as Atheism, Christianity, Judaism, Spiritualism etc. and with clients from different cultural backgrounds.

I currently work in my own private practice as a psychotherapist & counsellor.  Outside of counselling I have experience of working at managerial levels in large blue chip organisations, as well as being self employed for a number of years. I’m therefore comfortable working with clients who are more cognitive/thinking in their processing of experience as well as those who make decisions based on feelings/gut instinct.

Training

I undertook 4 years of post-graduate level training at the Sherwood Psychotherapy Training Institute (SPTI) reading an academic and clinical Masters Degree (MSc) in Person-Centred & Experiential Psychotherapy (Merit).  This course is accredited by the UK Council of Psychotherapy (UKCP) where registered psychotherapists must achieve stringent academic and clinical criteria for registration/accreditation (such as 4 years of personal therapy, three years of clinical supervision and 4 years of postgraduate level study with 100% attendance).

I have also completed a Diploma in Clinical Supervision, awarded by the Sherwood Psychotherapy Training Institute, and recognised by the UKCP.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

UKCP
UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
