Are you feeling stressed or anxious ? Experiencing problematic relationships ?
Does it feel like groundhog day every day ?
For many of us, there are times in our lives when things get on top of us. Times when coping with daily life becomes a struggle and it is hard to make positive changes to aspects of our lives that cause us stress and distress. It can feel as if we are on a bus, being driven by someone else, in a direction we don't wish to go...
Sometimes the past and current situations can feel like a lead weight around our shoulders, making us fearful of change and even more fearful of the future. In order to cope, we develop negative habits and engage in behaviours that keep us stuck.
I'm Liz Barrett and at Off The Bus Therapy I work with individuals who, perhaps like you, are struggling to cope with, for example, feelings of anxiety, depression, frustration and a sense of being out of balance; people who know things could be much better, yet don't know where to start. Together, it is possible to work through your difficulties to enable you to make positive changes so you feel more settled, secure and happy, with a clearer sense of direction and control over your life.
Using a foundation of psychotherapeutic counselling, I use an holistic solution focused approach to mental health and well-being, tailored to your needs and circumstances to support you to make lasting changes.
I believe it is impossible to separate mind from body, and the link between stress and physical problems is now well documented, so my work takes into account the whole person.
Prior to working as a therapist, I originally trained and worked as a mental health nurse for many years, gaining a broad experience across the spectrum of mental health issues, working with both children, adults and the elderly. Of course, no one is immune to life's difficulties and my own journey has had it's share of ups and downs which I believe has given me a sensitivity to the difficulties of others and enabled me to have a more balanced perspective on the difficulties people face, both professionally and personally.
I will take time to learn about you and gain an understanding of your experiences and where you are today, providing a safe, confidential space for you to express yourself and just 'be you'. By working with you to look at where you are now, we can work together to get you to where you'd like to be !
