About me
Do you need to talk to someone in confidence, someone who doesn't just listen but truly hears your experiences?
Do you wish you could share your reality with somebody who respects your perspective and sees things through your eyes?
Imagine having the opportunity to feel comfortable and relaxed, to be yourself, share your thoughts and difficulties and not feel judged
... that's what I offer at Just Bee Counselling:
🐝 because you need to be heard
🐝 because you want to be understood
🐝 because you deserve to be valued
... embrace your strengths and address your challenges
My name is Lis and I’m a person-centred, neurodiversity and disability affirming counsellor based in York, UK. That means I understand neurodiversity and disability, both through life experience and learning and that you will work at your own pace and focus on your individual needs to enable you to find your own solutions.
Just Bee Counselling is here to help you navigate the world on your own terms. Your counselling hour offers you a haven where diversity of experience is recognised and accepted.
Choosing the right therapist is important and it is hard to decide by just reading a profile on a directory like this. By all means check out my website but the best thing to do is to book a Discovery Call... so you can talk to me... people say I'm a good listener and easy to talk to, I certainly don't bite!
A Discovery Call is a relaxed and informal 20 minute free chat. Choose a time to suit you, ask some questions, no ongoing commitment, talk about your needs and how I can meet them. You decide if it feels right, then we agree when to start work. If not, it's not a problem.
To be honest, there’s a lot of different therapies around and they can all have benefits... but you are unique and so your experience of therapy at Just Bee will be what you need it to be 🐝
Training, qualifications & experience
You can be confident I work professionally and ethically because I am a registered member of the BACP (number 397568) and I have been supporting people to make positive changes in their lives since 2016.
Since qualifying, I continue to work hard to improve my understanding of mental health issues and keep up to date with the latest research in areas that affect my clients.
I am also a member of the amazing counselling team at Kyra Women's Project, a unique, independent charity in York city centre www.kyra.org.uk
Member organisations

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Areas of counselling I deal with
Other areas of counselling I deal with
I work with clients who have issues in many of the areas listed above and I am a person-centred counsellor with a specialism in supporting neurodiversity and disability.
I have a pluralistic philosophy which means that I accept that there are many different approaches and finding the one that is best for you right now is the right one.
My aim is to help you embrace your strengths, find your own solutions, and live life on your own terms.
