Elisabeth Auer, Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist and Counsellor (UKCP reg.)
2 Sheen Road
59 King Street
I am a relational psychoanalytic psychotherapist (UKCP) and counsellor in Twickenham and Richmond and have more than seven years of experience.
In the therapeutic work we explore, whether our difficulties in our actual life with current relationships may be rooted in models of thinking, feeling and behaving which we have internalized very early in life and which are mobilized unconsciously. We then try to change these models if they prove to be unhelpful or damaging. By means of the therapeutic relationship we create alternative, and healthier, ways of being and relating.
In my work I draw from psychoanalytic writing, insights from neuroscience and developmental psychology, literature focusing on attachment theory, reflective functioning, affect regulation and trauma literature, but also from the arts and literature.
Training, qualifications & experience
I accredited with UKCP (United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy) and I am a member of IPSS (Institut of Psychotherapy and Social Studies) and IARPP (International Association of Relational Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy).
I underwent a one-year introductory course in psychoanalytic psychotherapy before I underwent a four-year part-time training course in psychoanalytic psychotherapy. During this training I gained work experience in mental health organisations and therapeutic communities.
My first professional qualification is in teaching. I trained as a secondary school teacher and have been working as a German teacher for many years, specializing in teaching German. I am also the mother of a 13-year old daughter and live with my family outside London.
I am committed to continuous professional development and attend workshops and seminars on a regular basis.
