About me

I work with adolescents, young people and adults. One of the key things that I try to demonstrate to a person is their own ability to survive and be empowered; by increasing awareness of their own resources. I hope to have a genuine engagement with my clients so that individuals may feel more able to accept the parts of themselves that they find unacceptable. I work long and short term with clients, depending on what issues are presented, the requests of the client and what is safe for them. I incorporate CBT, Mindfulness, SFBT and other creative approaches in to my work.

People often approach a therapist because they feel that there is a problem that they are facing in their lives, in their relationship’s, or within themselves. It is not unusual to find that an individual holds many beliefs and ideas around who they think they are; limiting themselves and bringing them to a place of distress. Whatever the reason is for the distress, the ultimate aim must be to enable a person to feel better equipped to deal with life events and gain a greater sense of self awareness.

I also offer clinical supervision to counsellors and psychotherapists who are working with young people and adults.

Further information

Honesty and trust are very important ingredients in a therapeutic relationship. I attempt to live in a mutually inclusive relationship with clients; one that is not just thought about but also shared. I try to take more relational risks within the therapy, all the while trying to accept my own fallibility. We are after all two human beings in a room; both therapist and client need to be fully present and willing to be open in order to have a respectful relationship.

The first session

The first session will be what is called an "assessment session”. This will be an opportunity to meet with me and discuss your personal reasons for attending therapy. We can look at what you feel your issues are, how you would like to work with them and how long we may work together.

Sessions last for 50 minutes and are once a week.

Duration of Counselling

Long term and Open ended work.....This kind of work involves some months of counselling, anything from 12 session plus. It is not time limited and both I and the individual will assess the progress of therapy and decide on a mutually appropriate time to end the counselling.

Short term and time limited therapy. This is set for a limited amount of sessions and is usually no more than 12 sessions.

What happens in any given session is confidential. Any limitations to this will be discussed with you in the first session.
