About me

I am a humanistic therapeutic counsellor, and my practice is about working together for change. For me, a genuine and collaborative relationship between therapist and client is key to helping you heal and understand a bit more about who you are, and how you want to be. I like to offer a warm and down-to-earth welcome to clients from many different backgrounds and identities.

My training qualification is in humanistic counselling and psychotherapy, and I work from an ethical foundation of person-centred and anti-oppressive practice. What this means to me is that I value people in their uniqueness, and I respect each person’s right to walk their own path in life. I work with awareness of cultural differences and social inequalities, and my knowledge and training in diversity and inclusive practice is extensive.

My first placements in counselling were in drug and alcohol use recovery, and open-ended low-cost therapy. This means I have experience working with a range of issues, including supporting addiction recovery in a fixed number of sessions, and helping clients explore how they see themselves and their relationships in the long-term. Whatever kind of issue you are wanting to look at, the way I work involves listening and really hearing you as well as building a meaningful dialogue between us.

In addition to my clinical practice I am the therapy centre manager at Hastings Therapy Centre. HTC is an ethical and inclusive not-for-profit with a central mission to make high quality psychological therapies accessible to all. The management side of what I do involves maintaining and sustainably developing our offering of a safe, professional, and accessible therapy service.

How to begin

My practice prioritises high clinical and ethical standards, and I work within a team of skilled and experienced therapists. The first step is to get in touch. I offer an in-depth initial consultation (50 mins at £52, in person or online). This is a meeting where we gather a bit more information about you and what you are experiencing, and discuss how therapy might meet your individual needs. You don't need to know anything about therapy before beginning, and you are guided through the process. If there is any issue around our clinical fit or mutual availability, we can offer to refer you to another therapist within the team who makes a better match.

About me

Prior to retraining, I was a university lecturer and researcher working in the arts. My PhD and subsequent publications have been about art and social/political change.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
