Eleanor Carn MSc, PGDip, UKCP, MBACP
I am a psychodynamic & CBT psychotherapist with 10+ years experience. This combination of insight and action works well with anxiety, panic, depression, relationships, low self-esteem, feeling stuck, and making changes. I have an LGBTQ+ affirmative approach and respect every individual's chosen identity as equal and valid.
I work extensively with anxiety and depression, as well as relationship issues and low self-esteem. I have particular interests in gender and sexuality, women's issues, neurodiversity and ASD spectrum "disorders", supporting people with BPD / EUPD symptoms and diagnoses, and, anger management.
I am a Senior Associate Therapist at The Therapy Clinic, located in the Poet's Corner area of Hove: www.therapyclinicbrighton.com.
How Psychotherapy can help:
My psychotherapeutic approach enables me to work with you at depth, for greater understanding, as well helping to address issues in the here and now, for example to be able to feel more in control or less anxious day to day. Once you feel able to manage daily life, you may be ready to take a deeper dive into your issues. Sometimes, feeling less anxious, or worried, or down, is enough and I respect my client's right to decide what they want from therapy.
Finding the right fit is important, I offer initial consultations at a reduced rate (£15) to allow us to meet and see if I am the right therapist for you. Every person’s journey through therapy is unique and therapy is a collaborative undertaking. At the core of this, is the client-therapist relationship.
My theoretical approach is Psychodynamic; we have a rich unconscious world that exists just out of awareness and influences much of what we do. I work with clients to bring this into awareness. Difficulties in current relationships can often be understood through recognising the influence of our internal ways of working, and the past.
I also use CBT tools and skills to help with symptom and anxiety management. These alone can be powerfully transformative. Together with a psychodynamic understanding, we can promote ease of suffering in the here and now, and understanding of how and what led you to be where you are.
My Training & Experience:
I have additional trainings in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Systemic Family Theory, Creative Communication, and working Online. I adopt a cross-modality therapeutic approach, using what works to fit your needs and to facilitate deeper understanding of the self as a route to mental wellbeing.
I am a BACP and UKCP accredited Psychotherapist and a registered member of ACTO, the association for online therapists. I work with clients for short-term and long-term contracts, dependent on their needs. I practice face-to-face counselling in Brighton & Hove and work online using email, live chat, and video. I am also a qualified Clinical Supervisor.
