About me
Hello, my name is Elaine and I am a BACP registered and qualified counsellor working in Banchory, Aberdeenshire. I work pluralistically which means I draw on a variety of different methods to tailor our sessions to what works best for you.
Alongside traditional talking therapy I also offer creative methods such as writing, journaling and drawing. I have extensive experience working with writing therapeutically and can make this a main focus of our work if this is of interest to you. I also offer mindfulness and visualisation techniques. I am trauma-informed and embrace a holistic approach encompassing body, mind, and soul. I offer a safe, relaxed space for you to explore your thoughts and feelings at a pace that feels right for you. We will navigate the best path forward together, session by session, learning as we go about what is most helpful.
I work with clients in a number of different areas including, but not limited to, anxiety, depression, bereavement and loss, self-worth, self-expression, stress, and relationship issues.
I offer a free 20 minute consultation for you to ask me questions and for us to gauge whether we might be a good fit to work together.
Sessions are either in-person in Banchory on a Monday or a Wednesday afternoon or online.

Member organisations

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Writing-focused sessions use a variety of journaling techniques and Free Writing, also known as Stream of Consciousness Writing.
Labyrinth Work
I am also a certified labyrinth facilitator with Veriditas, the world-wide labyrinth organisation and can offer hand-held labyrinths as an additional tool to work with to help you slow down and connect with your own inner wisdom.
