About me

I believe that there are times when we all need to talk and that this can be very difficult to talk to those closest to us in fear of upsetting them. That is why talking to someone experienced who is not emotionally involved and who is trained to hear you without judging or giving advice can really make a difference.

As a counsellor I will work with you, respecting your values, culture and autonomy.

Before qualifying as a counsellor I had a long career in the corporate world at a senior level. It was a natural transition for me to become a counsellor as I have always had an open door policy at work with staff and colleagues who wanted to see me to discuss a particular problem or to share something that was on their mind. During this time I became aware of how communication plays an important part in meeting an individuals needs for both adults and children alike - how important it is to have a voice and be heard.

I have a diploma in Person Centred counselling although this is complemented by training in other approaches. I am an accredited member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and I am bound by and adhere to its Ethical Framework for Good Practice. I am committed to ongoing professional development and regularly attend professional training, workshops, conferences and seminars; I also receive regular supervision in order to maintain a high level of competence. I hold full professional liability insurance and an enhanced DBS check.

In addition to my private work, I work with BUPA, Validium EAP and in two local secondary schools dealing with children aged 11-18yrs.

I have been a volunteer for Cruse Bereavement Care for both adults and Children and Young People,  I was a member of the team who volunteered support during major sporting and cultural events across the country and for major incidents – I was one of only a handful of Cruse counsellors on standby at the London 2012 Olympics. I have also provided counselling services for a local Drug and Alcohol service Oasis Health and Wellbeing.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.

Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.

All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

Additional information

I can offer a confidential service that starts with an initial appointment either face to face or by telephone for us to talk through what your expectations are from counselling and what I can offer you. If you then feel that counselling is right for you and indeed, that I am the right counsellor for you then we can arrange further sessions at a mutually convenient time. If  you are a parent or guardian reading this I am more than happy for you to accompany your child/teenage for part of this session.

I offer daytime and some evening appointments; occasionally I can see clients at short notice if I have space. Sessions are for 50 minutes and at intervals set to your need. Regular reviews are held and you can of course terminate counselling when you feels it is right for you.

The costs are £45 per session payable by cash payable on the day or a bank transfer in advance of the session.

A reduction in fee may be possible for students.

Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday
