About me

I am a psychotherapist and author based in Amersham and Harley Street and an analytic group therapist.

I have worked for MIND as a therapist for patients with acute mental health diagnoses, where I was also employed as a Group Therapist. I am a writer and researcher and my book on Echoism: The silenced response to narcissism, is now published in Routledge books. I trained with the IGA as a group work practitioner and combine both psychoanalytic and existential approaches in my work.

Finding the right therapist is often difficult. The work is based on forming a relationship where you feel safe to share your worries and problems without fear of judgement. If you are feeling depressed or anxious, find yourself filled with dread or feel hopeless and desperate, or have undergone a recent life change or loss, I can provide a safe confidential space to talk about your feelings and help to make sense of them. Life is full of challenges and we can often feel at sea with no sense of an anchor or a safe harbour. I can be with you to help negotiate your way through stormy seas, whether to find more direction, harness your power or to recognise, accept and support you in your vulnerability.

For serious concerns, chronic anxiety and mental health problems - including trauma, PTSD, BPD, Narcissistic Personality Disorder, self harm, Bipolar disorder (manic depression) and obsessions - I offer long term open ended PSYCHOTHERAPY. I see my role as being with you while you face the realities of your existence, helping you to understand the choices you have and to bear the pain, in order to live a more fulfilling life.

If you are ready to work deeply and intensely to try to discover not just who you are but why you think and behave as you do, I offer a combination of working existentially and analytically to help you understand both your conscious behaviours and unconscious motives - this work suits individuals who are ready to make a commitment to come to multiple sessions per week (Upwards from 3x weekly)

For those currently facing a CRISIS (including identity, relationship issues, infidelity, loss, sexuality, gender, power, coming out, death and betrayal) I can provide a safe and discreet space to work through such feelings as shame, confusion, dread and guilt, without judgement, enabling you to come to terms with your life, accept yourself and recognise your freedoms, thereby enabling you take greater responsibility for your future choices.

When appropriate I draw significantly upon my creative background in the arts, particularly when working with clients from artistic backgrounds, the creative industries and corporate clients, or wth echoistic patients who may find speaking difficult in the first instance. I offer a non-judgemental, creative and empathetic space to do so.

I am an active researcher, and regularly attend conferences, give papers and run workshops for therapists. I write and research for publication and my book on Echoism - the lost voice in narcissistic relationships, published in routledge. I work with patients who have developed narcissistic behaviours often as a result of wounds from early life, and with their Echoistic (Echo-like) partners or children, providing a space where they can find their own voice. Echoists have been misunderstood and marginalised and find it very difficult to take space. I offer a gentle approach which is not always comfortable but which can help to break the cycle of being in abusive relationships with narcissists. I also work with narcissistic patients to find ways to cut through feelings of numbness and dissociation, and the emptiness experienced when we feel unable to live up to the image of the person we feel others see us as or that we have constructed,  this can help to quash the cycle of thrill-seeking or destructive behaviours that may result from this.  My chapter on 'Using Myth in Existential Therapy' was published (Nov 2013) in a new Palgrave book 'Existential Relationship Therapy' with Emmy van Deurzen et al. and I have been running workshops for therapists on working with narcissism and echoism, and for echoistic individuals to promote healing and the development of a voice and a self.

I suggest an initial consultation to meet, and to see if we can work together, before agreeing to a contracted period of work. The cost is £65 and as well as providing a space to see whether I am the right person to help you, and for you to ask any questions you may have, it is an opportunity to discuss ongoing commitments, fees and frequency of sessions.
