Donna Dosanjh - Counsellor and Psychotherapist
I have vast experience of delivering counselling, CBT and EMDR to help people cope with and heal from depression, anxiety and PTSD both within the NHS and privately. I will tailor therapy to meet your identified needs. In your first session I will assess your difficulties to assert how I can best help you.
Many of us go through difficult, painful and overwhelming experiences. It may be that you wish to work through your sadness, hurt, anger, disappointment caused by a relationship or difficult life event. You could feel unsure why you feel the way you do and want to try and understand this. You may be experiencing unwelcome and highly distressing thoughts, feelings, memories, images associated with a disturbing experience that you just cannot seem to switch off from.
I want you to feel assured that my knowledge and experience makes me a robust practitioner. I will do my upmost to ensure that you feel safe in what can feel like a daunting journey ahead. Your best interests are at the heart of my therapeutic work. I have worked extensively on the following issues:
- Anxiety including panic, social anxiety, OCD and phobias.
- Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
- Childhood sexual abuse.
- Childhood neglect.
- Domestic abuse.
- Road Traffic Accidents (RTA).
At the heart of person-centred therapy is the notion that people will naturally move towards growth and healing when they work with a therapist who is understanding, warm, empathic, non-judgemental and genuine. These personal qualities are at the core of all my therapeutic work. I am further qualified in evidenced based Counselling for Depression (CfD).
Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is recognised as an effective form of trauma treatment with the NHS. The main technique involves ‘dual stimulation’ using eye movements, tones or taps, which is thought to help the brain and body process traumatic memories thought to have become trapped leading to the reliving of past distressing memories. It is often used to treat the post traumatic affects of childhood sexual abuse, domestic abuse, war, road traffic accidents and other traumatic incidences that cause distress, including phobias.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy looks at identifying and modifying unhelpful thinking styles and behaviours as a means of improving how you feel. This can be particularly useful if you are feeling stressed as it helps you manage things differently. It can also help panic, phobias and social anxiety.
I can offer both short and longer term work.
I currently have availability on Monday mornings and weekday evenings.
