About me

Hello and welcome to my page.

My name is Dona, and hopefully, with my support you can discover a way to find some inner peace from lifes challenges. You have taken a brave step in reaching out, now the work can begin.

I work closely with adults  who are experiencing loss, grief, bereavement, terminal illness, new diagnosis, pain and carers stress, which all have a huge impact on how we cope. I can support you with how you connect and respond in your relationships with others such as your friends, work colleagues, family members, and partner. I can help you to find new coping strategies when you are feeling overwhelmed, anxious, unmotivated, lacking in self-esteem, lonely, helpless. I can assist you to find new purpose when you are feeling lost and without hope. We can look collabratively at your goals step by step of your journey , at a steady, and relaxed pace.

As a qualified counsellor and clinical hypnotherapist, my way of working draws on a variety of approaches of which I have outlined on my website. As we are all different, I tailer the therapy to suit you as an individual .

I consider myself as warm, empathic , patient and without judgement. I can offer you a calm, confidential and nurturing space to assist you in exploring your thoughts feelings, and behaviours guiding you as we work together.

I understand how difficult lifes challenges can be, and "To truly feel heard" can be the most wonderful human experience on earth. I am here to listen and support you through your lifes journey, so  you may experience new ways to find new meaning , connections and  understanding of yourself.

My interest is on the mind ,body and soul connection and their relation to inner healing to bring about new hope. I feel it is important  to develop a good trusting therapeutic relationship where you can be your true self, allowing yourself to  become empowered  and to make the changes you need.

Training, qualifications & experience

I currently hold a foundation degree in counselling which I gained via Teesside University and a professional Diploma in clinical hypnotherapy. I also do regular continuous development to keep my skills up to date.

I have had over 30 years of experience working within mental health within the NHS, and hospice work and end of life care.  I have diverse experience working with complex mental health problems, as well as mild to moderate mental health and physical issues. I have experience working with risk and safeguarding issues.

I work closely with people who are experiencing loss, and bereavement and people who have a terminal illness or going through a diagnosis. I find volunteering for CRUSE bereavement very rewarding , supporting people through their grief process. I have a personal understanding how it feels to care for a loved one during these distressing times, and how it can impact on family. I have an interest in supporting carers who are looking after someone with early onset dementia and cancer, so they can process their emotions.

I can also combine hypnotherapy and counselling, if wished to achieve a therapeutic outcome, as research suggests they can work well when they are integrated. Hypnotherapy can help anxiety, panic, fears, phobias, pain, stress, weight management,  smoking cessation, fear of flying, social anxiety, PTSD, low mood, sleep issues, Inner child work, and much more. Please see my website for updates or for asking any questions.

I have a particular interest in relationships and patterns of behaviour, and how the past impacts the present. I am soon to be training in couples counselling so I can offer this as part of therapy in the near future

I also work for an eap company offering employees telephone counselling/assessments for work related and personal stress, and a variety of mental health issues, particularly bereavement, anxiety, depression and relational issues.

I have worked and supported the elderly and their families in their own homes, helping with their independence, and recognising the signs of early onset dementia and how diagnosis effects families and the person involved.

I have an understanding of autism, and supported people during and after going through a diagnosis and I am interested to learn more .

Please see my website also, and I shall be happy to answer any questions via the phone or by email to see if we can work together.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
