Diane Smith MBACP
17 East Parade
I have many years of experience as a counsellor and regularly work with clients who struggle with Anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, panic attacks, Family related issues, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, anger management issues, Couples/Relationship issues or gambling addiction.
I am a qualified counsellor/psychotherapist and a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and cover Harrogate, Knaresborough and surrounding areas of North Yorkshire. I work in an empathic, person centred way with my clients needs at the forefront of all work I undertake.
You may be looking for counselling because you are struggling with anxiety, a relationship or family issue, It could be that you simply feel that you have identified issues that you felt you had dealt with and now want to make changes to your life and would like some help, support or to speak to someone who is impartial and not a friend or family member.
I have experience of working with a variety of individuals with a diverse and complex range of issues and dilemmas that are causing distress in their daily lives, from young adults through to the elderly. I am able to use my training and experience of different modalities of theory from Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), short term dynamic therapy, psychodynamic therapy to relational work to help individuals understand and work on their issues.
A good, trusting counselling relationship is important to help you to overcome problems, to help you understand and overcome difficulties in life. I ensure that counselling provides an opportunity for you to make sense of your life experiences. Working together we can explore problems that have arisen and work out new coping strategies to ensure good emotion resilience in future.
I have the ability to understand the needs of my clients and feel that offering a confidential and non-judgmental space to explore issues helps to build a trusting and open relationship. This can then help my clients to gain full insight and self awareness about their issue, the role they play, which then enables them to look differently to issues causing stress and anxiety.
If you feel it's time to move forward, then please contact me to discuss your concerns and to arrange an initial assessment.
During our initial assessment, we can then work together on the best way to help you move forward with your life. This might mean meeting for regular sessions however, some clients find that just one session is enough to gain clarity about your issue.
