About me

Hi my name is Di Wicks and I am an Accredited Play Therapist, EMDR trained Practiioner and Clinical Supervisor for Play and Creative Arts based near Scarborough, North Yorkshire. I offer playful evidence-based therapeutic services to children and young people and family members, as well as therapeutic training to professionals who support the carers of children whose behaviour is spilling out and affecting the whole family.

I work with pre-natal mothers, young children, adolescents  and parents and I offer one to one sessions, family or sibling groups.

The specialist services I offer are tailored to the individual adult, child and/or young person and their family and can include, Play Therapy, sandplay, attachment focussed dyadic play based on Theraplay® principles and Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP), Filial Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR).

I am on the Approved Provider List for Therapeutic Services (Yorkshire & Humber Adoption Consortium).

I have a fully equipped therapeutic room with a waiting area and parking close by in the middle of town, close to the beach and shops.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have over 17 years experience of working with children, young people and their families who have emotional and behavioural difficulties caused by a wide variety of reasons that include:

Loss and bereavement, domestic abuse, neglect, adverse childhood experiences, abuse (physical, emotional, psychological and sexual), PTSD and trauma across a number of settings that include residential care, foster and adoption services, hostel accommodation and home settings.

My qualifications include a Managing Care Cert, BSc (Hons) Health and Social Care, PG Dip Social Science, PG Dip Play Therapy.

I am an Accredited Play Therapist with Play Therapy UK (PTUK) and a Clinical Supervisor for Play and Creative Arts

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Additional information

My fees vary according to the type of intervention and length of the session agreed upon (1:1, family, play therapy or EMDR etc.) but they range from £50-£70 a session.

The initial telephone consultation is free of charge.

I am a fully registered PTUK clinician on the PSA Accredited Register for Play Therapy; I  have fully enhanced DBS clearance; indemnity insurance and I'm registered with the ICO,  and I adhere to the PTUK Ethical System; and work with full clinical supervision.
