Denise Staniland Therapeutic Counsellor ADV.DIP(CPCAB)
I am an independent Counsellor offering counselling services to the adult community, specialising in working with Children and Young people. My practice has included counselling children in secondary school, a youth offending service, The Ministry of Justice and working with the homeless just to name a few. I have experience in the areas of sexual abuse, self harm, depression, loss, bereavement, low self esteem, anxiety, anger management and supporting people in distress.
What is Therapy for?
You may be distressed by past events in your life, You may have persistent worries, fears or anxieties that you can't change.
You may have been hurt deeply by what has happened to you in the past.
There may be things that you don't get that will can all expect without asking.
Perhaps you want to change, but find that the more you try the more you stay the same.
People with problems like these can benefit from therapy.
Some people feel helpless and hopeless, and look to a therapist to help them find out more about the roots of their problem.
Maybe in past you were too scared, angry or sad to be the person you feel you can be.
You may need to grow. Not everyone who comes to therapy is in crisis.
What happens in Therapy?
I will encourage you to be just as you are, rather than as others think you should be. Paradoxically, this is how we change.
I'm there to create a place that's safe and supportive, so that you can explore your problems without being judged.
We all have unmet needs.
Unexpressed anger or sadness, even unexpected joy.
So often we deny our deepest needs and wishes, staying out of contact from others and ourselves.
If you are searching for direction, you may need a beacon, a guide that can help you discover how you want to be. You may know the direction you want to go, but need some help from someone who can support you as you take first steps.
