I understand how difficult it is for any of us when we are in need of help; how hard it can be to make that first contact, especially if you are feeling down or blaming yourself for some reason. There are many people worldwide who are affected by some form of Mental Health distress at some point in their lives; for those who claim they have not, they are indeed unusual or extremely lucky. In the UK it is estimated that 1 in 6 people in the past week have experienced a common Mental Health problem such as Depression and Anxiety.
When we feel this way, we may have thoughts or feelings which we cannot understand and impact our ability to be fully present in life; our work life, health, relationships to others and our-self can be compromised, leaving us feeling hopeless and numb.
Our life and our experiences can have such an impact on us, that we may spend a great deal of time and exhaustive effort trying to forget about, distract, or get away from it. This may help in the moment but the long term effects can be devastating. We focus on things that are unchangeable; since we cannot change the past, then our focus remains on what we have done with it all...…. our story.
Change and Counselling In Counselling we will explore how you have come to be where you are; I generally do not give advice, nor tell you what to do but I will invite you to find your own insight and understanding in an objective and supportive way. Exploring your story can help you understand more about yourself, your circumstances and bring opportunities for growth and change. This is a wonderful thing.
What to expect Whether its for you or someone you care about, please do contact me for a free initial chat where we can discuss your concerns and your hopes for counselling. I can be contacted via email or by phone. If you are happy to continue we will arrange to meet face to face and agree sessions depending on what feels right for you and your circumstances. Sessions are on a weekly basis for fifty minutes. I offer short and longer terms agreements in a comfortable, private and confidential service in Folkestone.
Personal I have always been curious about people, personal stories, and how we have come to be all that we are; for better or worse. I have devoted my professional life to work with older children and adults. I am naturally a very compassionate person who genuinely cares about others. My philosophy is that the past need not repeat; we can change our story and learn to engage in life from a place of worthiness and wellbeing. Letting go of who we think we are supposed to be.

Training, qualifications & experience
- Professionally qualified counsellor with 15 years’ experience in various Therapeutic roles and settings including young persons residential care, and Acute Mental Health.
- NHS IAPT (Improving Access to Psychological Therapies) Service in two Locations, having counselled in GP surgeries, voluntary work and in Private Practice.
- 3 years Accommodation Manager for Non UK Nationals. Experienced in Cultural Diversity
- 6 years voluntary experience in a Community Counselling Service in Kent.
I work using an Integrative Framework which combines different theories and techniques; as a client you will be placed uniquely at the heart of change within a relationship of mutual participation and equality. I am a Registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, and abide by their Codes and Ethics for Good Practice. I am privately Insured and with DBS.
