About me

Hello and welcome to the profile for Dee Johnson @ Mindsoup Counselling Services.

I offer face to face counselling in my Westcliff , Essex based office and On Line Counselling via Phone, Webcam ( secure platforms such as Vsee or Zoom) and email counselling .

  • COVID - 19 POLICY for MINDSOUP

Remote Counselling - Just to reassure you I am already a qualified and recognised  On Line Counsellor  holding sessions using  video link, phone or email  , so I have in place all ethical and required protocol to facilitate this.

Many clients are having Phone or Webcam sessions that usually have face to face. To re-assure you , as an already qualfied On Line Counsellor we use secure platforms, mostly either Zoom or Vsee. In the current climate we are using , at the clients request WhatsApp or Skype as well ( pls note Skype and Whatsapp will be at the clients discretion and responsibility).

If you have not had remote /on line counseling before ,please do not hesitate to contact me so I can guide you through the easy process and answer any questions .

We have resumed face to face appointments - these are limited to allow for cleaning - please see procedures as follows:

Up Dated: 06.08.2020

This advice is superseded at all times by Government advice and the Law or for Insurance purposes and is subject to change at short notice.

·         Please ensure that appropriate hygiene procedures before and after meeting, including hand sanitisation are followed. We will provide hand sanitiser if you do not have your own, and require this to be used on entrance and exiting of the building .

·         Refrain from physical contact, for example handshakes.

·         Please wear a face mask upon entering / exiting our premises in the shared areas.

·         You may wear a mask during the appointment if you prefer, please note we do not supply PPE other than hand sanitiser.

·         We can no longer provide tissues or facilitate the disposal of used tissues so we do require you to take away any that have been used by yourself during the session ( we can no longer provide dustbins).

·         All surfaces: phones, laptops, door handles, door buzzer etc., are regularly cleaned between clients.

·         Refreshments- please note we are no longer able to provide a glass of water, please therefore bring your own refreshment i.e. bottle of water and take with you when leaving.

·         Please only use our bathroom facilities if strictly necessary.

·         We no longer have a waiting room so please do not arrive early for you appointment, as we will not be able to let you in to the building to wait in the communal areas.

Other things to keep in mind:

·         Please be prepared in case of evolving Government advice I may have to cancel face to face counselling again for a temporary period. We will communicate with all clients and inform them that their sessions could be liable to postponement or disruption on a temporary basis. Where possible, we will continue to offer clients the option of continuing sessions by phone or video conferencing.

·         Please be advised that future sessions will be postponed if you/ I are advised medically to self-isolate, or if you / I have any symptoms of a cold, cough, respiratory issues or a raised temperature.

·         Please be aware that if I /we are diagnosed with Covid 19 or have been in direct contact with a person diagnosed with Covid 19 , we will enact required protocol for Track and Trace and inform the NHS of contact details of people I/we have come in contact with. In such circumstances I will inform you of this action immediately.

Looking for the right Counsellor can be confusing , overwhelming and sometimes a bit daunting, particularly if you have not had to do it before.

  • As a long term experienced and Senior Accredited Counsellor I fully appreciate and understand how hard  this can be, even just to choose or make that first call, so in order to help you as much as I can please read my profile below or check out my website www.mindsoup.co.uk for information, guidance and reassurance. Please note I also have associates that work for Mindsoup including both female and male Counsellors.

How can Counselling help you?

The main aim of Counselling is to give you the opportunity to work towards living your life in a more gratifying, peaceful, fulfilling and resourceful way.

Counselling can be useful to explore both past and present issues and blocks, even if it feels so confusing you are not sure where to start, its o.k as this can be worked out in therapy.

It is quite normal to experience times in our lives when we feel worried, confused, depressed, angry, low self- worth or anxious.

This can be caused through personal, Family, relationships, lifestyle or work issues

There are also times when it is difficult to identify why or where these unhelpful or worrying feelings are coming from.

Counselling can lead to an increased overall well-being, self-awareness, confidence, motivation and a greater understanding of difficulties and relationships and acceptance of difficult situations.

Every one can benefit from Counselling therapy as the concerns and worries we carry are unique to us.

I came into Counselling , with several years of training ,due to personal life experiences and experiencing its benefits and support. I am always respectful and mindful that it is always a privilege to be let into peoples inner thoughts and life.

What next?

Contacting a Counsellor for the first time is a big step to take and sometimes confusing finding one that you feel may suit you best and may also feel a bit nerve wracking or strange making that first contact.

Thats ok, and quite natural and I fully appreciate how hard it can be.

A good way of finding out if counselling is a good course of action  for you is to book an initial assessment.

Initial assessments are a Counseling session, helping identify and talk about your concerns and also give you an understanding and reassurance of how Counselling works, what happens in a session, answer any questions you may have and most importantly for you to feel sure that this is the right and most comfortable decision for you.

Therapeutic relationships are so important and you need to feel that you are happy and reassured with your choice.

Counselling Styles  Explained:

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy - CBT helps to find and implement coping mechanisms and alternative ways of dealing with concerns, problems or unhelpful behaviour. This can bring quick solutions and focus as well as life- long skills. CBT helps you challenge and identify your automatic thoughts.

Basically what we think affects how we feel, and how we feel affects our behaviour (which causes our actions and reactions). These reactions have a consequence to ourselves and others, which if not helpful can be addressed with CBT, giving more positive and constructive, healthy outcomes.

Person Centred Therapy - Encourages self- awareness and self -actualisation. Helps look at behavioural patterns and personality traits. Highlights unhelpful or destructive repeated behaviour.

In other words, it helps you work out who you really are, find true acceptance of yourself and discover what you can do to improve and grow emotionally to be the best you can possibly be.

“The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.”
(Quote from Carl Rogers- Founder of Person Centred Counselling)

Humanistic - A truly empathic approach, encouraging and supporting you to explore your feelings, enabling you to off- load your issues or upsets. This allows a safe and supportive place to out pour deep, buried and often very difficult and painful feelings, and look at how you can release them or find more helpful ways of dealing with them.

EMDR - The mind can often heal itself naturally, in the same way as the body does. Much of this natural coping mechanism occurs during sleep, particularly during rapid eye movement
(REM) sleep. Francine Shapiro developed Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) in 1987, utilising this natural process in order to successfully treat
Post- traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Since then, EMDR has been used to effectively
treat a wide range of mental health problem
