About me

Are you looking for a professional, friendly and experienced counsellor?

At times in our lives we may need support to help us find new ways forward. Together we can work through what you choose to bring to counselling at a pace that suits you. I provide a safe, non-judgemental and confidential service to all my clients.

As an experienced Integrative counsellor my approach is to identify what would be of particular therapeutic benefit to you and integrate this into our sessions. I have a sense of humour and am creative, which is reflected in how I work. We work together; side by side and step by step.

I offer both long and short term therapy with adults from the age of 18 and over

1-hour sessions are £60
90 min sessions are £80

Professional Memberships

I am an Accredited Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), The Association of Counselling & Therapy Online (ACTO) and EMDR UK.  I work in accordance with their Professional Conduct and Ethical Frameworks.

I am fully insured, DBS Enhanced checked and ICO registered.

How to get started

When you contact me I will endeavour to respond to you within 48 hours. We can then arrange to speak with one another privately at a convenient time. I offer an initial free 30 minute telephone consultation.

If you decide to go ahead, we can set up a day and time for a session where we can talk about what you would like to get out of counselling. If you are then happy to continue, I will set up a second session and we can arrange to meet weekly or fortnightly.

If you would like a no-obligation conversation at a time to suit you, then please contact me by email at debranewmancounselling@gmail.com , or call/text 07873 134 069.

Where am I located?

My main office is located in central Bournemouth with close proximity to The Triangle.  There is convenient parking available opposite Clifton House.  I also have availability across three further locations - Highcliffe, Christchurch and Southbourne. Each of these therapy rooms are private and comfortable with parking available.

Training, qualifications & experience

MBACP (Acc), Diploma and Fdsc Person-Centred Counselling, BSc (Hons) Professional Healthcare, EMDR, AngerUK Certified, Online Counselling Diploma

I have extensive experience working with the NHS, initially as a Registered General Nurse and later as a Counsellor within GP practices. This gives me a good understanding of how the mind and body work together and what happens in health and illness.

Further to this, I have experience working within trauma; including rape and sexual abuse, where I worked with West Mercia Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Centre for two years, and critical incident response, such as when I provided support to members of the Manchester community following the tragic bombing.

Alongside my existing qualifications I have a Diploma in Online Counselling skills and an established online counselling practice. For some people it can be an incredibly useful and convenient way to access counselling. Some of my clients will use both in-person and online therapy to give them flexibility and choice.

Additional training includes:  Online counselling, EMDR, CBT, Critical Incident Training, trauma and dissociation, rape and sexual abuse, lifestyle coaching, sexual diversities, mindfulness for well-being, bereavement support, alcohol and drug awareness, developing creative interventions, domestic abuse, eating disorders, self-harm, anger management and positive change.

I also am able to provide the Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) service, which relates to stress in the workplace.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.

Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.

All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

Further information

  • EMDR

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing. It’s a form of therapy that is at the forefront of treating trauma and a range of other conditions, such as depression, anxiety and phobias.

By using bilateral stimulation, such as eye movement or tapping, it enables the brain to process disturbing and/or unresolved memories. This can be used in both face-to-face and online counselling.

It is NICE (National Institute of Clinical Excellence) approved and I have completed all necessary training and am member of EMDR UK & Ireland.

  • Chronic Conditions

I work with those affected by chronic conditions such as Neurofibromyalgia, ME, MS and MND. I have previously worked within several Neurosciences Units as a nurse and undertaken a full time six month neurosciences course.

  • Anger Management and positive change

Anger Management focuses on reducing the frequency and extent of anger experienced in daily life. I am an Anger UK Certified Counsellor.

  • Critical Incident Stress Management

Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.
