About me

Hello, my name is Debbie and I am an Integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist.

In my approach and work, I value warmth, trust, safety and genuineness as essential in the counselling relationship and I gently encourage and empower clients to establish their goals. Acknowledging difference and individuality means I may draw from a number of approaches to best fit the person or the presenting issue. Counselling, I believe  is collaborative and therefore I encourage and value feedback which in turn guides the pace and direction of the work.

I believe in an individual’s potential and drive for positive change and in their own vast resources, and support clients to feel empowered and begin to direct the change they seek.

Whether through past or current events or experiences, life may bring times of loss, distress, self-doubt, shame, a feeling of isolation or simply 'questioning.' Counselling can offer a space to be heard, to explore without judgement and the opportunity to process events or feelings. It can feel a big step and sometimes a challenging one, but it can lead to greater self-awareness, understanding and self-compassion and the possibility for creating different choices, new habits, a sense of direction or simply self-acceptance.

I offer short or longer term therapy to adults ranging from 18 years and above.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a nurse background  which I believe gradually led me towards my work as a counsellor and developed my interest in the connection between mind and body.

I am guided by the ethical framework of both BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS) and attend regular supervision and CPD (Continuing professional development).

As well as private practice I have gained experience in voluntary settings which have included university and college counselling services and a domestic abuse service. Collectively, issues have included bereavement, relationship difficulties, self -esteem, confidence, trust issues, anxiety, trauma and depression.
