Debbie Torpey MBACP (Accred) Counsellor. Supervisor.
My name is Debbie Torpey, I am an experienced BACP accredited counsellor Who has been working with Adults young people children and Couples for over 17 years.
I offer a warm and friendly professional service, where you will not be judged but be provided with the right conditions to help you make sense of difficult situations that are affecting your life.
I have many years experience of working therapeutically with Adults young people and children within different settings. I work with a variety of issues including issues around relational problems, general anxiety disorder, depression, self-harm. panic disorder and bereavement and loss including misscarriage. I have experience of working with complex trauma and sexual abuse.
I have a genuine affection and interest in people and I am told by clients that I am able to offer a deeply authentic relational way of working. I believe it is this relationship that plays a big part in the healing process.
Whilst my core training is in Humanistic Counselling, I have a deep respect and understanding for other modalities, and have gained qualifications in several different areas. This helps me to provide clients with a better experience of counselling. I believe by drawing on different modalities I can tailor make an approach to suit your uniqueness as an individual.
My experience has taught me that whilst theory is important, counselling works by accepting and validating clients for who they are and trusting that they have within them the ability to change and grow.
I am a qualified supervisor and offer supervision to counsellors and other helping professionals. I am happy to offer personal therapy and supervision to trainee counsellors as part of their placement.
As an accredited member of the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy), I adhere to its Ethical framework and code of conduct. I hold public liability and professional indemnity insurance. My work is regularly supervised by a senior accredited BACP supervisor in accordance with the BACP guidelines.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.
Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.
All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
