Debbie Kendall MBACP Dip (HE) Registered BACP Therapist and Supervisor
I am currently offering On-Line (Skype, Zoom, FaceTime) or Telephone Counselling sessions only due to Covid-19 restrictions. You can develop a deeper understanding of yourself and your life patterns with Counselling. It will help if you are struggling with areas of your life such as relationship problems, anxiety, stress, low mood, grief, depression, anger, self-harm, social anxiety or low self-esteem. Talking to an experienced therapist helps you to explore what is happening and how to overcome this or find better ways of coping.
Counselling can help you overcome difficult times or experiences in your life. We will work together to help find a way forward with the issues which you are facing. I will support you in the process and encourage you to look at your situation with more clarity, learning more about yourself leading to changes and a more fulfilling life.
Counselling appointments are available for Adults, Adolescents and Children. I am an experienced Therapist who is genuine, understanding and has a warm approach which brings about a strong counselling relationship for you to be yourself, and feel comfortable in talking about issues from the past or present which are affecting you now.
I also offer Clinical Supervision for Counsellors. I have 8 years experience of working with Counsellors as a Supervisor in a School setting supporting Counsellors in the work with children and young people. I am also qualified as a Clinical Supervisor to be able to work in Private Practise with Counsellors who work with adults and or young people. Please get in touch for more information.
Sessions last for 1 hour in a comfortable private counselling room in Horsforth, Leeds. Each person is unique and I work closely with you to ensure that you are getting the best out of counselling.
I also offer Counselling Sessions via Skype.
Please feel free to contact me for any general enquiries or further information.
Here is a sample of some Client Comments on how counselling helped them:
"Having struggled for many years to build relationships and intimacy with others, I now understand the reasons for this. Counselling has empowered me to recognise why I do this and it has helped me to start to break the cycle." (female, 30's long term work)
"I have started to understand why I have panic attacks now that I can talk about this in counselling and be really listened to and understood, I now feel more able to cope as I know what the triggers are." (female, 19 short term work)
"Talking about my thoughts & feelings has not been easy but I now know what causes my workplace stress and how to manage this." (male, 40 short term work)
"Thank you Debbie, coming to see you has helped me find my happy place" (female, late 20's).
"Since starting Counselling to help deal with panic attacks, I now understand how I can stop these and manage the under-lying anxiety, this has helped improve my confidence and I feel more in control" (male adolescent - long term therapy)
My background: I have worked within private, voluntary and NHS settings as a Counsellor dealing with the many issues which are brought to counselling, and have also specialised in working at a Women's Centre helping women to explore such issues as childhood trauma (physical, sexual and emotional abuse), OCD, relationship difficulties, depression, terminal illness, low self-esteem, anxiety and loss.
Experience of working within a mental health agency setting providing short term counselling has given me the opportunity to counsel both female and male clients regularly - dealing with workplace stress, marriage related issues, alcohol dependance, bereavement, relationship problems and addiction. My clients have ranged from 5 to 65 yrs of age.
I have experience of working with children and adolescents who are experiencing emotional difficulties. These difficult feelings are often expressed through behaviour as children do not have the emotional capacity to process strong feelings like adults and this often causes concern to parents. If you would like to talk through your child's situation to see if counselling can help, then please get in touch. I use creative techniques when working with children to allow them to explore their feelings.
Prior to becoming a Counsellor I was a coach/development manager within the workplace, this has given me vast experience of career counselling and supporting people through difficult times at work. I understand the stress that can be experienced as a result of work.
As well as working in private practice, I also work as a Counselling Supervisor within Schools managing the counselling service for children. This gives valuable insight into the effects of childhood experiences and how these impact us as adults.
