About me

Welcome to my profile,

I am a person-centred integrative counsellor and supervisor working with adults, children and young people.

I have a passion for working with people and see my role as counsellor as a vocation not just a job.  I re-trained later in life as I felt I wanted to fully utilise my therapeutic side in order to listen to and help others in their time of need.

I do understand that taking the first step of talking to a counsellor may feel daunting.  From the beginning I will work with you to help you feel as safe and comfortable as I can. If now feels the right time for you to speak to someone then I am here to listen and will help with whatever may be troubling you. I do understand how everyday worries, past experiences and trauma and relationship difficulties can not only impact out lives, but can consume our thoughts and affect our levels of happiness and mental well being.

I pride myself in being professional, respectful, reliable and somebody you can trust and feel safe in talking to. I will work with you without judgement and with care and attention to whatever you want to bring to your sessions. I will offer you a calm, safe, confidential space to help you explore your issues and worries, and will work to build a trusting therapeutic relationship with you, to help you feel that you can use your sessions to speak openly and freely about whatever may be troubling you.

My aim is to work with you at your own pace to help you explore your thoughts and feelings in order to help you make sense of them, and to help empower you to think and feel more positively about the choices you want to make and the life you want to live.

My background and experience spans over twenty years of working with people of all ages, from all walks of life. I've worked in a variety of settings which includes visiting people in their homes, working in schools and in children's social care.  I worked for Children's Voice through the Oxfordshire Mediation Service.  I work two days a week as school counsellor (ages 11-18 years) as well as working in private practice.

These experiences are invaluable to help me understand how difficult childhood experiences can impact our lives; how the impact of trauma can have ongoing affects on our mental health; and how for example feeling anxious, low in mood and de-motivated, or having negative intrusive thoughts, dealing with OCD, self -harm,  or feeling suicidal impacts can be debilitating for our mental wellbeing and prevent us in leading our fullest lives.

Working with young people helps raise my awareness of the current issues that this younger generation are dealing with such as the impact of social media on their lives, gender identity and issues within the school setting which can lead to mental health issues.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
