About me

Hello and welcome. I can appreciate how difficult it can be looking for and then making contact with a stranger to discuss your anxiety and problems, as it was for me when I found myself needing counselling support.  So my first intention with my clients is to help them to feel safe, not judged and valued for who they are.  Several years ago I experienced a life changing event which made me consider what I really wanted to do with my life. So I decided to train as a counsellor myself and have never looked back.  I believe passionately in the process.

I use a Person Centred approach which means I am non-directive and don’t give advice but will help you to explore what might have brought you to this point in your life by gradually unpicking the stresses and anxiety that are giving you problems, which can sometimes feel overwhelming.  Together we will work out what’s important to you and what you want for your future.  The work we do is all about you! I am curious to know how life is in your world, and I am happy to work at a pace that is right for you.  It’s important to me that you are not only heard but fully understood and accepted. “The curious paradox is that when I can accept myself just as I am, then I can change” Carl R.Rogers.

Training, qualifications & experience

I would like you to know that I am fully qualified counsellor, Psychotherapist and Supervisor.  Having worked for several years in a general practice agency, I have come across and worked with most problems that people face, including domestic abuse, self esteem issues, anxiety and depression, loss, (in all its forms) relationships, anger, self harm. This list is not exhaustive and I am happy to work with whatever my clients bring.

I am registered with BACP and am bound by their ethical framework, I am fully insured, I meet monthly with my supervisor and attend regular continuous professional development training.

I draw upon not only life’s experiences but, also the people and clients I have met who have brought so much of themselves that I could not fail to be touched or to gain a wealth of knowledge, and skills.

As well as enjoying and feeling a great deal of fulfilment from my counselling work I am also involved in education with students who are going through their training to become qualified counsellors. I am in the process of training to become a supervisor.
Feedback I have had from clients includes:

“You have given me the tools to be able to work with my problems”

“this session is better than any medication I could have had from my doctor”

"Please keep doing what your doing, changing lives, Thank you"

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information

As it is important that the working relationship is a good one. I continue to work on myself to ensure I am up to date with my knowledge and skills, this includes me training to become a Supervisor so that I can not only support my clients by other Counsellor too.

I offer a comfortable quiet room where we will not be disturbed, there is off road parking.
I am happy to work long term or short term depending on your need.

I feel passionate about counselling and have a real trust in the process. I believe it is easy to put a sticking plaster on our problems and go along a medical route when what would really benefit us is to actually have the courage to face up to the underlying issues which cause distress, and it would be my privilege to accompany you through this time.
