David Weale Psychotherapeutic Counsellor
16 Upper Woburn Place
I never underestimate the courage needed to take to that first step to explore what isn't working for you in life. My role is to support you on the journey you are about to undertake. I work in the here and now as well as looking back at early life experiences and how they may have impacted in a challenging way in the life you lead now.
I am a Transactional Analysis Psychotherapeutic Counsellor. I offer a confidential, non-judgemental and safe counselling setting. I work with both individual clients and couples.
TA is a very helpful model to help explore why and how we feel about ourselves and our life experiences. It is a modality that is easy to share with clients. That said, I do not bring theory into the room. The most important thing is for us to establish a comfortable and relaxed relationship so that you can feel confident and safe enough to be able to bring your thinking into the room. I often think of our brains as being like a washing machine, constantly turning round and round with the washing remaining in the drum! In counselling, you have the chance to bring the thoughts tumbling around in your head, out into the room. Often, just hearing these thoughts instead of only thinking about them can make a huge amount of difference and make you feel lighter with a sense of relief and release.
The first step can feel daunting but if you decide you would like to see me, here is what to do. I don't mind if you email me or call me. If I don't pick up, leave a message and contact number and I will return your call. I offer an initial session so that we can meet. In that first meeting, you will see the room in which we would work. We will talk about what brings you to counselling and what you hope to get from the process. You will also have the chance to ask me questions, for example, about how I work. There is no commitment beyond that initial session. If however, you feel that the initial session works for you then we would agree to work together. Counselling sessions are weekly. The work is open-ended so that you can have as few or as many sessions as you like. Each session is 50 minutes in length and will start on the hour - say 9.00am - 9.50am. The day and time will be the same each week. It will be your space until you decide you no longer need it. If you have issues and concerns that are causing anxiety and challenging your quality of life, please get in touch.
